Plant in composted soil mix is on right. This is week 1 they are in bloom box with a 12/12 light cycle.
picture below is another view the yellowing is caused by camera plants are both green.

Picture below is 1 week later, compost plant is much bushier. Pro mix plant has more stretch.Damaged leaves on compost plant (bottom) were damaged during cloning.Plant in pro mix is one day older and was allowed an extra rooting day.Both plants are a clone from the same GF mom.

Yeh I got prolly 20% in my mix ahh the benefits of REAL DIRT some may never know.Just make sure if its homemade that all materials are well compostede as composting requires nitrogen and you dont want the plant and the compost competing for N.Two compost can be quite heavy and thick so just make sure to add a good share of perlite and or some coco to help loosen that bindy stuff up.Take a handful squeeze it tight in your hand then let go.Does it all crumble and fluff back out or does it stay in a compacted ball?This is a good test one can do for concistency.Hpoe this helps ya out braw.Compost dirt growers UNITE!!!!

I ran N-P-K plus PH tests on compost. The compost had double of all N-P the K was normal not double as would be expected. The PH was at 6.2 I added 1 tablespoon of quicklime to a gallon of water and watered the plant.This compost came from some soil I had mixed up and wet down a year ago and forgot it. It was all those organics kelp meal,,bat guano,michrozial fungi,peat basically just good organic that had composted a year.This may be a good thing the plant is healthier than I expected I thought the plant would be burned up.This is a one week old clone that got put in real high nutrient soil, a no no to say the least. I will be more surprised if it produces any decent bud.

So basically it was ammended soil that had cooked down for a year not really compost at all.When I think compost I think a pile of leaves,cow shit,kitchen scraps and dead plants and whatnot thats been being turned and broken down for multiple years.Like premade compost you buy.It say contains manure and hummus"real dirt" yer saying this is just reused soiless thats had all the goodies added and cooked awhile.Well thats different all together.Thats just what I consider to be a basic mix.I then add real compost at a rate of 1/10 to the mix like yer talkin about.Hmm I guess just like the defintion of Organic people also have different definitions for compost.Interesting,Peace,Gromerr Pott!!

I'm growing catnip ATM in a soil I made.

Other than some Alfalfa tea and the dreg plus a bit of left over brewed coffee I have added nothing.
The catnip looks like it's doing well.

When making compost and then using it as your soil I found that it's good to add nitrogen and maybe do that a couple weeks before you plant in it.

The composting process, for me, seems to use up a major part of the nitrogen.






Two months old. Check that thread to see how small they started out as.

It all depends on the plant, and the compost. Some store bought stuff really stunts growth for clones and transplants, while some compost from my food scraps (and more broken down) does a lot more than the storebought junk.

This was an all organic soil that has composted a year.If it was sand it would not have composted. The plants were allowed to root and veg then put directly into each container with the appropriate mix sent off directly to bloom. The one in pro-mix is 1 day older.I could call this test done now the plant in compost is really pushing out the buds but the pro-mix plant has just began pre flowering.If I was growing kolas i would use the compost. Not the pro-mix. I expected the compost plants to burn up.This stuff really broke down.

Yes I spose your right Ive just always considered compost to be like compost from a pile with leaves and twigs and cow poop all cooking down into that rich black earthy stuff.But I spose youre right anything breaking down into soil is prolly composting.I never really looked at it that way.Funnt my last bag of "compost"must have been full of weed seeds cus I opened my tub last night to find a little grass garden in there.All white little stretchy weeds and grass seeds,well at least I know there was no weed killer in there..LOL!!!!

Using "real" compost (even though I still think you have a form of compost - broken down organic material) will provide a great boost to your girls. They really love it. Mulching with compost and tilling it a bit into the top inches before watering does wonders too.

This is about two weeks in and the compost plant has began to show signs of a calcium deficiency.I will take a soil sample and check the Ph of the compost before I do anything. This may have to be restarted, the ph needs to be adjusted before this can continue.This is why i could loose a bag of home made dirt for a year. I make up the dirt a month before use it.Turning it and keeping it damp testing and making sure the ph is adjusted before I put a plant into it. I have began to date and write the ph directly on the containers. Do I give this plant dolomite or let it suffer an agonizing death? Calcium deficiency is not good any time during flowering.It decreases yeild dramatically plus the plant gets real ugly the other girls will point and laugh......

This is the compost plant with 2 weeks to go. The promix plant has 2 to 3 weeks left and is too tall.this is in a 1 litre pot.

This is good for a 1 litre pot she will yield about 16 grams dry......The other stretched so much I had to re-pot that ruined the experiment.this compost plant is showing some deficiencies now but harvest is so close I can't justify fixing them.This will cause me to re think my soil mix. Space is at a premium. This is a 1 litre grow 1 gallon will yield more than 50 grams of bud per plant.This is solid cola from top to bottom.I do most experiments with small pots so if they fail it doesn't diminish my medical grow.Thx for the prayers the other girls don't point and laugh as much.the horse has been eye balling me. I can hear it whispering to the flies saying my girls are going out at night stealing my car and getting speeding tickets....I hope they don't get pregnant or worse yet a STD..

45 days compost plant.


This is it for sure nice little 1 foot plant in a 1 litre pot.I never expected it to be so well got some spider mites all and all. 1 liter of dirt and some light in a bloom box.5 dollars for light dirt I was going to toss This is a stinky grapfruit and all this in 45 days. I still like the 1 gallon version better.I would have to grow lots of theese. :jump:

Now I've done this somone that can use a camera needs to do the all miracle grow grow.I will smoke er UH cure this plant for thirty days and report and weigh it dry.
