My first grow - 1 Bagseed

Hey all, I'm currently on my second grow. I've been keeping a little journal on another smaller forum, but there's really not much action there at all, and the peeps here are way more knowledgable, so I think I'm going to be moving my journals to this forum.

Here's a picture compilation of my very first grow. I started out with two plants, 1 Northern Lights #5 and 1 Bagseed. The Northern Lights turned out to be a male, so I obviously executed it, and I ended up with only the one female bagseed. I vegged with CFLS and then I added a 150 watt HPS when flowering time came around.

day 19 (12/12) I decided to transplant even though it was already flowering, I didn't like the droopiness

Thanks ! I checked out your 2007 outdoor grow thread, very impressive. You're lucky that you have the opportunity to have a space like that where you can grow outdoors on that scale. I hope to one day have a chance to do that.

Let's have some input from the experienced growers on this forum.
I never had a scale for this first grow, so I can only estimate the yield. I started sampling and taking off buds about 1 month before harvest, and about 25% of the buds were harvested before final harvest day.

What would you eyeball the total harvest at ? I have an idea myself, but I would like to see how far off I am.

Thanks ! And good luck on your first grow. The very first grow is obviously exciting, since MJ grows so fast, and there's always something new to see. Sometimes I'd be checking on the plant so many times a day, that my girlfriend would get jealous.

Thanks ! The harvest is just about gone now. I harvested this first grow in the beginning of may, but I started stealing buds off of the plant in April. I smoke every day, so this lone harvest has been doing me good up until now.

I only have a tiny bit left. I saved the largest bud for last. I've already started my second grow, but I will be dry for a while, until that one finishes up. I'm only growing for my own personal use, but I hope to grow enough one day so that I can save up some different strains that have all cured for a while, so there will be a variety of nice buds to choose from. Also I found out that the smell does improve vastly compared to the first buds I smoked around harvest time, and the last bud now, which has cured for around three months.

thats some good looking bagseed you got there

Thanks alot man ! I checked your diary also, looking good !

Regarding the bagseed, I'm also pretty certain that it tasted better and was more potent than the bag that it originally came from. I doubt that commercial growers (at least where I got my weed from) are going to bother with things like foxfarm nutes and really caring for the plants. They're looking for a quick turn around, as cheaply as possible I would think. If they really looked out for their plants, there wouldn't have been any seeds in the bag to begin with, lol.

Thanks ! Yeah, that trich shot was a real pain to take. I must've snapped at least 15-20 shots before I ended up with one that was somewhat clear and not fuzzy.

What is your estimate yield off the one bagseed? Or did you ever get around to weighing it?

No, I unfortunately never had any scale for this first grow. I don't even have one now yet, but I will get one before my second grow is completed.

Somebody else asked me the same question in another thread, and I estimated between 3-4 oz. dry. (including buds I removed before final harvest date). I don't have any experience with growing before, but I know what ounce bags looks like, because I've bought plenty of 'em before, too many as a matter of fact, lol.

About a three weeks before harvest, there were 17-18 decent sized buds on the plant. When harvest day came around, there were only about 12 left, so about 25% of the buds were removed and smoked before the final harvest.

Anybody else is welcome to estimate on the final amount, I'd like to know for sure myself.

When I was trying to estimate the yield in the middle of flowering, I came up with these figures.

9.24 Ounces = (1.0 Gram per watts)
4.62 Ounces = (0.5 Gram per watts)
2.31 Ounces = (0.25 Gram per watts)

So even if the plant did pull 3-4 oz., the grams per watt ratio is still under 0.5, and I hope to beat that on my second grow, but we'll see.
