A friend of mine used this tutorial to build a very effective aeroponics grow pipe for less then 100$ which he still uses with great results. I thought I would bring this very creative design over to icmag with THURSDAY.'s permission of course.

What You Need

Stormwater Pipe, either 250mm or 300mm and 2 endcaps to suit.
Drill and assorted drills, 75mm hole cutter.
13 mm hose, and some 4 mm hose. 6x4mm elbows and 6x4mm hose joins.
Chalkline, tapemeasure, pencil.
10 x 13mm hose saddles. Screws to fit. 1x13mm hose bung.
10mm rubber gromets. 360' deg micro sprays.

STEP 1.

Ok first cut you pipe to what length you require. Get your chalkline out and mark a line straight along the pipe. Work out how many pots you are going to have on it and mark the pipe. I reccommend measuring in from each end 200mm for the first pots, then evenly measure your other pots from there. Get your 75mm hole cutter and drill out the pot holes. Use a file to smooth out the edges of the cuts.

STEP 2.

Roll pipe over slightly and use chalkline to mark another line for the 13mm watering hose and measure and mark on the line with pencil every 100mm for your hose saddles. Pre-drill holes for screws and screw on the saddles and hose. Put bung in one end of the hose and be sure to leave enough hose for the connection to the pump.

STEP 3.

OK, measure from the outside of the pot holes on the centre line 80 mm each side of the pots mark and drill a 10mm hole for the rubber gromets for the micro sprayers. Join the 4mm watering lines to the 13mm hose and hook the elbows to the hose and add another 40mm piece of 4mm hose to the elbow with you micro-sprayer on it. Put the waterline through the gromet into the pipe.

STEP 4.

Put on 1 of the end-caps and at the drainage end drill 4 x 10mm holes in that endcap so your nutes can drain from the pipe back into your res. I made a stand out of aluminum for my pipe but you can work out what would be better suited for your growroom or closet. Use 75mm netted pots for the best results. I am using a 6000 litre an hour pond pump for the distribution of my water to the Micro-sprayers and is doing the job easily and efficiently.

Cool, how does it do for the girls? Never done aero, but I got a 6 ft section of that kind of pipe. How is this size for roots?

width is 250-300mm which is 9-12 inches. as for length thats up to you.

you can buy the stuff at home depot, osh, or any plumbing store. its all multi function piping which is easy to find

I used something like this a couple years ago. Except I used 6 inch piping with 6 pipes with over a 100 sites. worked well but there were alot of challenges to building it such as plumbing, etc. I have evrything figured out now and building another would be a snap. However the biggest draw back is the constand need for watering. I must have had bad luck but I had a pump fail and a timer fail on different occasions and almost killed my plants. The misters also got clogged but that may have been due to not rinsing the hydroton properly.

If anyone remember lothar from OG, it was a mimic of his system. The plants grew like crazy.
