I came across this and thought I would share...

These are getting very affordable now with small aquirium units that work well for hydro... also increase O2

Now you can run w/o chillers utilize higher res temps for better root growth and nute/gas exchange, no chemicals... a must for large systems..
If you have ever had gnats or pith you know what I mean!

The Ozone Water Unit
Ozone water treatment is one of the most beneficial break throughs in hydroponics. Many Commercial growers are already enjoying the huge benefits of using Ozone to treat and purify their hydroponic systems. We are now pleased to be able to make this cutting edge technology available to the everyday grower at an affordable price.

Ø Prevents and cures Diseases like Pythium & Fusarium

Ø Use through all stages of growth from clone/seed through to harvest

Ø No chemicals, a natural Anti-biotic for your plants

Ø Best Scarid Fly/Fungus Gnat treatment ever

Ø Kills Germs and diseases instantly

Ø Provides activated oxygen for plant vitality

Prevent and Cure Pythium, Fusarium and hard to beat Root Diseases

Treating your Water with ozone will kill damaging bacteria and will sterilize your root base and growing media while providing roots with extra oxygen.

Diseases like Fusarium and Pythium are virtually eliminated instantly and your plants roots will be sanitised and stimulated for healthy new growth.

This is very important during all stages of growth but especially flowering when there is little new root growth and the older roots are more susceptible to disease.

Worlds best Solution for ScaridFly Larvae Epidemic

Fungus gnat larvae and other root chewing pests have for a long time been the cause of many crops failing and have become very common in recent years.

Finally there is a cure that actually works and to top it off its chemical free and easy.

Simply drench your root zone with Ozone concentrated water and worry no more!

Major Cautions

This generator has been designed specifically for hydroponics use and should give you many, many hours of faithful service in your quest as a successful grower. However, there are certain cautions that need your full attention. Always make sure that the ozone water purifier is always much higher than the reservoir tank. If water gets in to the unit, there is a good chance that it will be permanently damaged and the warranty will be made void.

Use For a Few Minutes Per Day. A plant breathes in Co2 and expels oxygen O2, in the day cycle of growing. Ozone O3, is activated oxygen and like most molecules in the world it can be toxic at certain levels, so it is important not to generate ozone for too long. Too much ozone can disrupt the respiratory cycle of your plants and too little ozone can allow a disease to attack your plants.

Natural Ozone provides one of the most amazing growth increases, providing you run it for the right amount of time per day. Ozone provides a boost of activated oxygen to the rootzone for the assimilation of nutrients and minerals etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using a pump’s venturi to pull the ozone down the line

When you use your pump’s venturi to achieve a greater amount of ozone available for your roots, there is a greater risk of a back flow of water to enter into the generator. When using a venturi pump, you must make sure that you use a non-return valve to prevent any back flow of water. If you do not have a pump with a venturi, you should look at getting one.

Venturi means ‘a vacuuming effect’, so the pumps sucks the ozone out of the generator. The Aqua One 103 or Aqua One 104 (pictured) seems to work really well. In the meantime, you can begin with using the air stone).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using the Air Stone

As the ozone water purifier comes with an inbuilt air pump that blows the ozone down the line, simply attach the hose to the unit, and the other end of the hose, attach to the airstone. Drop the air stone into the tank and turn the unit on.When using for the first time, allow a minute or so for the stone to become unblocked. You should notice that there is a stream of bubbles coming from the airstone.

Using the air stone in a reservoir tank does not prevent algae growth in a tank as the ozone bubbles are not able to reach all of the tank. The air stone’s bubbles rise straight up and therefore are lost. This is where using a pump with a venturi is far more efficient as a pump circulates the water around and therefore ozonates the total volume of the tank.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hand Watering With Ozone Gives the Best Results!

As most Scarid Fly / Fungus Gnats, reside around the top of the root zone of a plant, it is therefore much better to apply ozone from a hand water situation as this can allow a greater root coverage as well as a saturation of the first few centimeters of where the roots and stem meet. Simply place your pump or air stone into a bucket of water, (again making sure that the unit is well above the height of the water). Run ozone in bucket for several minutes;5 mins for health plants, 10 mins for unhealthy plants. Take a scoop of water and pour as quickly as possible over the roots to be treated. As ozone is a short-lived molecule, it can only last for several minutes in the water after the generator has been switched off after which it reverts back to oxygen, so it is important to apply as soon as possible after water is taken from the bucket.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cuttings

Dip your cuttings in ozonated water and you mau never loose another cutting again! A few moments is all that is required.

For young cuttings (2-7 days) try a 30 second dip

For older cuttings (7+ days) try a full minute

If cuttings already have a disease, try 2 minutes.

NFT

For best results attach the flexible hose to the venturi section of your pump to allow the natural ozone to immediately contact the roots. Unfortunately, ozone will only last for the first five metres of travel, afterwhich ozone willquickly convert back to oxygen. But at least the water is much cleaner for the rest of the plants further down the gully.

yes interesting. i wonder how safe it really is? also i wonder if it will not end up killing my beneficials, as well as the gnat larva? could be worth a try though, one can always replace beneficials once the gnats are all gone, lol.

so how does the ozone kill the gnat larva?

EDIT... after I reread it with a clear nonsleepy head

Treating your Water with ozone will kill damaging bacteria and will sterilize your root base and growing media while providing roots with extra oxygen.[/quote

pretty sure they left out the word beneficial because telling ppl it kills the good stuff too is not aselling point... but the use of the word 'sterilize' leaves no doubt it will kill every living thing in the rootzone other than the roots.

I wont be trying it... also I think the seller is a ripoff as he chages almost 40% of the purchase price to ship you an item the size of a small answering machine... $39.95 shipping for a $109.95 item... I could UPS it anywhere in the US for $5

Have used this Enaly generator for two years and it has been reliable and of solid construction.
Used for sterilizeing hydro systems where it will kill everything good or bad so not a bio option.

Great for sterilizeing an empty growroom for mites or fungus and removeing damp smells from cars ect.
Also a good backup for a carbon filter or enougth on its own for a small grow.

Have to be carefull around live plants damage visible at low levels and its hard to kill mites/spores without damageing the plant.

In growrooms most of the ozone will react with water vapour forming a solution of hydrogen peroxide which effectively coats every part of the plant.

I did read that it will kill beneficials and you would need to reinnoculate your medium after using the ozone water. That said though a very short term dosing of this to kill pests without pesticide seems like a hydro organic gardeners dream.

true, this might make it possible to keep using the same slabs for more then 3 or 4 runs. one can buy all the different fungus and bacteria you want. so who's gonna do a field test and document it for posterity, lol?

the normal way is to use mosquito dunk to water your plants with, this will kill the gnat larva if you repeat it after 4 days it makes quite a dent in the larva, but to get rid of them you need to attack them from all sides. use sticky traps, get some nematodes and maybe gnat predators. or combine the mosquito dunk (bti) with electric mosquito killers and sticky traps. one can also get there levels right down if one lets the medium dry out totally. even let the plant droop a bit before you water and this will kill the gnat larva off.

ozone

ozone

i came across ozone by desperation, during a spidermite attack they were relentless, a cheap chinese job worked , i think they use them to clean drinking water and the such, any way that was it ,then later there were a few gnats buzzing round ,at the time i had a few seedlings in a dome propergator thingy,a gnat had got in or was in the earth or whatever, so i did an amateur scientist experiment, it was pretty big as gnats go , and flying, so, adult ,size of containment?, well, it,s one of those oblong seethrough things about 50 cm long 20 wide 20 high curved top, there,s probably an eqution for that , and i dont care what it is, the gnat however did,he would have liked it to be a bit bigger because he died about 30 seconds later, much slower than i thought , it kills spidermites and eggs larvae etc on contact i want to upgrade to an online permanent setup where it,s inter changeable so you can have it as an air filter so your weed doesnt stink on the way out or when your under attack you can blow some in .
