Need help and advice on my planned cabnit grow.

I've been growing for about a year, my current grow room, while very secure, has it's issues. It in a craw space, so there is very limited height available, also, it is a pain in the ass to get water all the way to the section of the grow, as well as many other issues. General things like resivor changing and such are a big pain in the ass and i come out dirty as hell. Overall I am displeased buy the amount of effort it takes just to get in there and do stuff.

I've had a cabnit in storage for a long time, just recently I have decided I am going to move my grow into this cabnit. It will be much easier to matain, and I think i will have a lot more yield due to the height.

Here are some pictures

Now the top will be the Veg/clone room, bottom will be the flowering. I will be using a 600watt on the bottom. I will mount a carbon scrubber somewhere in the bottom section. I am going to have scrubber > cool tube > fan. The fan will be in the attic above the room where the grow is. I will have a hole in the top to run the ducking through. I will put half of my intake holes on the side of the veg room, and the same amount on the bottom rooms walls. In between in the devider, i will have the same amount, so the air gets sucked throught the veg room into the scrubber.

One problem you can see with the pix is the doors. There is not an air tight seal, what can i do or put on, so the doors have an air tight seal around them? Also, when shut, they do not contaact each other completly, so that needs to be addressed.

This will be a hydro set up. The cabnit will be all the way up to the ceiling. I plan on having my air pump, and fan, and HPS ballest up therein the attic, and will run the lines down throught the cabnit, this will help cancel most of hte noise. I will run the air tubs down thought a main hole for the wires. Hopfully My wire on my ballest will be long enough so i can have it in the attic, and just run the wire down

I will be using one single tub that i will change weekly, I plan for have 3-5 plants on the bottom. I have not grown plants that big hieght wise before, so i will have to get a feel on how many i want in this space.

well for making the doors air tight just go to the store and pick up some weather striping. it works well for not only sealing your grow in but it also helps seal out light leaks which can skill the stealthness of it all. this cab is going to produce some serious bud. i cant wait to see it in action.

I have some, that i use for my window a/c. I assume you mean the same stuff. Do they sell it in different thinknesses? What would I use for the doors. When they shut, there is a gap, same stuff? But its soft and would not stay the right shape to keep light in/out

yeah pretty much the same stuff. and yes they do sell it in different sizes also. i think standard 1/4" 1/2" not sure how big it goes. but if you got some of the bigger stuff it should no doubt seal those doors for ya.

they also make the stripping out of different materials. i have seen foam and rubber. to be honest im not sure which would work better for your cab but i picked up some 1/2" of the rubber and it looks like its gonna do the trick.

hope this helps

foam i think would be more flexable in the sense it would be easier for the door to crush when i put the doors back on and shut them. It would adhere to the with of the gaps better i think

yeah indeed. i have yet to use mine so i might end up going and getting some foam. i gotta go to work but i also wanted to know how you plan to keep your 600watt cool in such a small space? i mean thats alot of light. a 400 would be prob perfect in there.

I am hopping the fan will keep it cool. My concern is the scrubber slowing down the air flow and not leeting the air go fast enough to keep the light cool enough. I have a box that allowes you to alter the fan speed.

I have the vortex vtx400
CFM = 172
Also, My srubber,
I found it, Mine has Coco Carbon & It will handle up to 200 CFM.

Therefore it's safe to say even at my fans max setting it will fine with my current scrubber. I will have to alter the fan setting to control my cabs temp. It will be sucking air though a room that is air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter.

ok good...i was waiting to hear if you had a/c. altho i have yet to grow with any hps light i know that that space would have gotten to hot without a/c. from what i have been told also i think your fan might be a little small. but if it has worked for you in the past then try it. but i think you might need to get a bigger one. in my soon to be 400watt cab. i am using a 309cfm fan, which i already have. and my room will be a/c controlled. but your right that the scrubber will def slow down your air circulation, which is also another reason why i dont think that fan will be sufficent to run a 600 in that small of space.

what do you think?

i guess if you have a/c and you can pull cool air across the bulb cfms may not matter as much

I have yet to use the fan for a set up, the fan i am using now for my other grow is not mine, and will be returned to its own when i cease that operation. I am confused on how big the holes for the instake should be. I was told 3 times the area of the exhaust. So if i use 4 inch duck, that mmeans i should have 3 4 inch holes? I would think you would use less to create a vaccum so no air comes out of the holes.

3 4" holes would prob be fine. if your air is being sucked through them and then through the light there should be plenty of suction. i usually follow the 3 times formula for my intake. if its too hot you can always add more.

well im off to work
take it easy bro
good luck

The inside of the cab will be lined with white poly to help add some reflection for the light

I will have a total of 6 intake holes. All six will be 3"x3". 3 for the veg room, 3 for the flowering room. The 3 in the middle so the air can come in the top and then into the bottom to be sucked out

High bro

Wow.... 20.5 cubic feet ........I've no experience with cab grows...nor do I know much of anything about growroom design (or anything else for that matter lol) ......................... [/disclaimer]

2-5 plants.....if it were me....I'd do 2 plants...and Scrog....

The light and medium could take up at 18" of vertical space....leaving you with something like 3 ft for growth....

Whatever type of hydro setup you're gonna run....consider recirculating, as it's less laborius....

Hope somebody with some real knowledge can drop some in this thread for ya bro

good luck!

What do you mean by recirculating? I assume you mean a hydro set up. For the past year i've been using tubs with air stones in them. Every2 weeks, I change the tub with a clean one, fill it up with fresh water and add the propper nutes. I have had good sucess so far. I am sure it could be better, but i would like to master my current level before i upgrade. I also need to make up $ for all the debt all this stuff has cost me. But I have not had to buy green from anyone for a long time, and that in itself is priceless. :chin:

I"m not really sure on the amount of plants. I have a couple gentics to play with. All seeds currently. So I will have to flower then from seed in my veg room, then clones the females and toss the males. I was thinking scrog. Have not done it yet, thou it seems pretty simple. I'm not sure how high i would want the screen and how tall to veg the plants.

I do have a plant that is huge, that just started flowering. Way to big for my craw space grow, she would fit in here nicely. My other little bush is almost ready for harvest. Other then those 2, i am plantless. But I am in a hurry to move the big one, as it is not getting that much light all around sinice its so big its shading it's self
