Flo Harvest Photos...

I finally chopped the remainder of my purple pheno yesterday -at 51 days. I'd already harvested some buds at 42 and 49 days, so there was maybe half the plant left - all buds, and no shade leaves. As you can see, it was very dark - smells of berries, dark chocolate and vanilla when dried - although only for 10 days so far, but it's a delicious smoke, and very strong. This is my first 'designer' sativa, as it were, and the high is totally fun and very sophisticated - very much like a small hit of quality liquid ac*d.

Now for the green pheno, which has exceeded all my expectations, given the unplanned 'promotion' of these two plants from seed-grown clone mothers to being my sole bud-producers. This one will get chopped on Saturday, at 56 days, and it should be nicely finished off by then. This one has a more fruity (green apple candy maybe?) /peppery/spicy component to the smell, and smells stronger. It also has much more resin content.

Neither Flo had any nutrients from day 45 onwards - just pH-adjusted water and Bio-Plus. This one only dropped the shade leaves last week, and is finishing nicely - just waiting for all the calyxes to swell. Trichomes are mostly cloudy right now, so a few more days should be perfect.
I added a film canister in a couple of these shots for scale.
For 51 days flowering, I'm very, very pleased with this variety. This was the Dutch Passion line, but what the hey - it's good enough for now.
And I still have 5 seeds left!

Enjoy...:)

Nothing special really - I had planned a hydro grow, which I cancelled after two weeks, so all I could do with these was re-pot in fresh soil and 12" diameter pots (no idea what capacity) and keep using the same nutes etc. I didn't do organic - I had enough to worry about already! So I just used the full suite of Vita-Link nutrients, which are fine for soil also - Grow and Bloom main nutes, Bio-Plus for root growth and general health, and Buddy for flowering at 21 days. I did try and keep the nutes to around half/two thirds the recommended dosages to be safe. Also John Innes Multi-Purpose potting compost with plenty of Perlite/Vermiculite mixed in.

I had all sorts of weirdness with the purple Flo (see thread in the Growers forum), which I put down to over-nutrient, but it wasn't in the end. Possibly slightly high pH for a week or two, but I think it's just a weird pheno basically.

The last two weeks I just gave them pH-adjusted water and Bio-Plus, cutting that out for the last week.

absolutely fantastic! you gotta be happy with that. looks like a good yield too. great photography.

Very Nice,....remind's me of days gone by....

I got given a small mother plant by a friend of a friend,....it was a "Flo" plant.

extemely sensitive to nutes (in Hydro), stretched like a MoFo, but flowers quick like 45-50 days (50+ for "Chunkyness") and produced the stickest lavender / Purple very dense buds, that smelt like Nepalese Temple hash. THey had a very up "buzz" which was clear and focused for 45 mins followed by another 45 mins of "Zoning",....which wasn't very focused,...Hehe.

Oh this "Flo" was DJ Short's stock, and had been around for a while. It truely is a good strain, but be carefull on the nutes regardless of the stock as "Flo" generally is fussy.

Have a couple of hits for me, i miss "Her"....

Peace

DP Flo was my first serious grow four long years ago. She was my first, and I would love to do her again.
Nice job Elev. Man

Well, given there wasn't a hope in hell of me waiting for an eight-week cure for this lot, I guess it's time for some kind of smoke report.

The purple pheno, depsite its small size and yield is what I think is the 'target' Flo - the smell is mild but totally unique - like vanilla, berries, cream, lavender, thyme, chocolate - it's too difficult to describe. Taste-wise it's a little more sour, but that's as I haven't been able to wait long enough! The high is amazing - totally clear, with zero body-load and very stimulating indeed. Unfortunately it's nearly all gone - I only got around an ounce from this one.

The green one was bigger, obviously - I got around 3.5 ounces from the plant above, which is great. Still going down fast though!
This one has a much fruitier/spicier smell and taste than the purple, like green apple candy, with a hint of chilli/cardamon or something like that - again, it's more familiar, but just as hard to describe. This is one is a tad stronger than the purple, and has a little more of a narcotic edge, but not much - it's a bit more 'zoney', and harder to ignore though - i.e. I'm not having any meetings on this one! Despite the size and vigour, I'm not sure if this is the one that's meant to be Flo, as I haven't found any descriptions in DJ's notes or any others for that matter. However, I'm keeping them both for now. When I can afford it, I may buy a pack of DJ's own for comparison, but I have a lot else to try:

Next grow:
flower out all old mothers (Jack Herer, NL X BB, 'G13', 'Crisscross', and my unknown 'special' mother (suspected to be NL #5). Will keep cuts of all back for new mothers.

Also start off remaining seeds:

10 Seedsman Original Haze
10 Seedsman Malawi Gold
10 Seedsman Hash Plant
5 Dutch Passion Blueberry
5 Stella Blue

This should give me one decent female/male of each strain and I can either decide to add as new mothers, or just cross the best male of each with all my existing mothers. Either way, it's gonna get busy...:)

BTW, my 'G13' is in quotes, as I have no idea if it really IS G13 or not - very shaggy, wide-bladed leaves, but not like a pure indica in growth pattern - all over the place, with weaker stems than most indicas - like a crazy tropical sativa in structure.
We shall see - I need to photograph all my mothers soon, so will post them all for some comment...:)

It's very 'warming' too - there's a definite spinal rush that I get about 15 mins after smoking, that I only usually get from psychedelics.
It's quite disconcerting in a way - in the sense that I can get this high just from a smoke, and yet function perfectly normally at the same time, without any sense of being 'wasted' or 'wrecked'. Similarly though, there's none of the thumping heart and twitchy fingers that I've got from some Sativas, and the transient anxiety that can ruin an evening - or get you into a weird argument you didn't expect!

It's very well-engineered indeed, and as a grower/consumer, this one feels more like an 'achievement', whereas before it was free good smoke!
I would have put way more effort into posting all this into DJ's forum, but as these were the Dutch Passion variety, I didn't know whether it would be considered useful or not. But anyone still not sure about Flo, I have to recommend it - it's seriously high quality genetics indeed.

I just bought a pack of Dutch Passion 'Original Flo' - as they call it.
I only germed five seeds - got two ungrowable runts, one hermie male, (documented elsewhere here) and the two gorgeous females - the 'green' and 'purple' phenos. So I still have five seeds left...:)
