Pez ~ WA clone only

Who here knows about the Pez? Originally from Lopez Island, WA the Pez is one of the best clone only's available in the PNW, IMO. The Pez got it's name from it's hometown of Lopez Island, Hence "Pez," although most people think it was named for it's pez candy like taste.

The Pez is very old, and not much is known about it's genetic background. If anyone knows what the mix could possibly be please clue us all in!

I normally run my Pez just past 8 weeks. The high gives me intense munchies, I can eat and smoke/eat and smoke/eat and smoke over and over with this strain, as If you could not be filled! The end smell of the meds is very astringent and reminiscent of ginger ale.

I'll be documenting my grow of the pez in this thread, Any and all info I gather on the Pez.

Here it is at day 23, this one is just a little rascal:

Abja roots good luck finding it as there are many fake cutting of the pez floating around the PNW. This cut is very closely kept but if you know the right hombre.. good luck friend.

Here is a smoke review I found from WAY back in the day when I first got her

_______________________________________________________
Strain name: Pez
Piece used:1 ft glass on glass bong

Appearance on a scale from 1-100: 87

Additional comments:This weed looks wonderful. Theres so much hair and crystals that it reminds me of a shaggy dog coated in sugar.

Smell on a scale from 1 -10: (pick each individual smell out and scale them from 1-10)
citrus: 5; sour; 7 ginger ale; 7

Additional comments:
It had more of a fruity smell on the surface, like a grapefruit or a lemon. But once you crack the nugget open you get this impression that a baby shat on your bud, which is a great thing.

Harshness on a scale from 1-10?
9! took 3 bts to make extra sure

Taste on a scale from 1 -10:
7

What does it taste like?
The Pez had a really harsh frosty bite to it, but a likeable overall.

How many hits did it take to get you high?
3 bong tokes

How long did it take for your high to come into effect?
3 min.

High on a scale from 1-10 (pick describing words and rate them on the 1-10 scale.)
hungry:10; lazy: 5 body high:8

Additional comments:
Well I believe that the Pez is a really good morning bud. You wake up, smoke a bit, make a big ass breakfast, and go throughout your regular day with a nice incognito buzz goin on.

Very insightful! Great information 1and1!

The Pez is a superior branching plant, It's a true bush. I'm doing some breeding with the Pez and will post pictures soon. Hopefully we'll be able to see how stable it is as I bred it into a landrace.

Heres the pez day 35, I havent treated this one the best and let it slip into a nitrogen def but we are back on track and it is soldiering on.

Large frosted nuggets? I think yes!

She reeks in the best way, very sweet, kinda piney but there is a tickling smell of ginger that keeps my nose coming back for more. Oh Pez, I cannot wait to inhale you.

Sounds like a fun little project TGH.

Love to see the elusive PEZ show here frosty little flowers.

A room full of gingerale buds that make me want to make a big ass breakfast, heading to the medheadstash jars sounds even better :)

Jiggy you really got my mind working after reading that article on the Pez, It explains so much! This pez cutting can herm like mad if you arent nice to her and it coming from bagseed really makes sense.

I had done a small pollination of a pez plant a year ago and have just recently started a small seed run, just 5 seeds. I have three females going right now that I am planning on flipping this week. There were more pez leaning phenos then the Hawaiian landrace used, I will really see whats going on after the flip.

Here are my three ladies. Two of them have leaves exactly like the pez, and one of those girls has a stem that reeks of lime skittles.

Most pez leaning

Most Hawaiian Leaning

Lime skittles Pheno, more pez leaning but has similiar branching habits of the Hawaiian male.

Again thank you jiggy for that information, you helped fill the blanks in my genetics for future projects! If herms start sprouting I know who to blame

Very Nice! It will be interesting to see (smell) the results. The Pez has a very strong, very nice aroma. She'll probably bring out some latent aromas from the hawaiian. Pez has that kind of strong pungency that stings your eyes like a onion when you trim up fresh buds. She also overpowered my filters this run and I just had one of her going.

What has caused her to hermi on you TGH? I saw just the tip of 1 male flower barely visible poking out of a large bud at the very end.

The Pez seems to be light sensitive, any light leaks and she'll throw out a pair of nanners but normally only a double or triple small bunch not a large drop.

I'm doing a pez right next to the PezXHawaiians so I'll see exactly how far off I am from the original mother. Hopefully I get a nice spread, I really want to see good things from this cross.

I agree 1and1 the smell can be quiet powerful but I really enjoy it. I am hoping that power present in the Pez smell transfers over but the smell changes into an easier to describe aroma. Either way they are sure to be great. I'll keep them updated in this thread.

Pez Tutorial

Pez Tutorial

I singed up to respond to this thread about the legendary strain The Pez. Take it or leave it I will tell you all the details available because I was there when the strain was named The Pez and what happened after that is one for the history books from where I am sitting.
I am talking about the original "pez" strain the same strain that appears in Jason Kings book "Cannabible 2",appeared in at least one High Times magazine and the same strain that the late Jack Herer proclaimed"are you trying to get me arrested?" when he was given a bag just before he hit the road; Jack if you are reading this from heaven we all miss you and thank you for all the help ,marijuana is legal in WA thanks to you. The original PEZ started from bag seed in 1991 in Everett WA , I know because it came from my bag and it was named after the flavor of orange pez the candy. Contrary to what has been stated here and elsewhere it did not originate in Colorado, Vancouver or Lopez Island , the Lo-Pez strain showed up all over western WA in the years following the Pez but even I have to admit that the story of Lopez is hard not to believe as it has a nice ring to it. What I do know is that Pez has made its way to Vancouver , Amsterdam , Up and down the I-5 corridor and to the East Coast in the form of cuttings and with so many growers having access to the cuttings it genetics have no doubt been used to create many other strains and Phenotypes.
I always thought the genetics had an Afghani parent crossed with just the right amount of an unknown sativa which gave it the fruity and spicey flavor and smell , most of the crosses with the pez that I have experience with turned out to have more of a hash plant similarity, there are some great ones.
This strain was/is a truly indoor/outdoor variety ,easily the best outdoor strain I have ever seen grown here in western WA where we have a very short growing season outdoors. It was indoors where this strain gained its fame and truly flourished . I wish I had some right now but in the 20+ years since we first enjoyed the Pez a lot has changed and changed again , I would like to see it again though. That is real dope on the original Pez strain as best as I can remember.

Thank you for popping in Jardinator!!

Your information is 100% welcome in this thread.

I was siting a source from the SCCC in my original post, that is the story of how their Pez came to be.

"Orange Pez Candy" I have had people tell me this Pez smells just like their cut of Orange MANY times. Some people think they must be related! I would LOVE to hear more about your cut, and I will gladly update this thread more with all of the pictures I have of mine. I would be interested to hear what you have to say about it!

Do you know what the seed came out of?

Additional comments:
This sample had a very attractive bag appeal. It was frosty in a way that made it glimmer in light. The way that the trichomes were packed together, in combination with the yellow hues of the calyxes, gave the bud a glimmering greasy appeal. The hairs were dark and vivid shades of orange and bunched in patches between the heavily frosted plant matter. Cracking the bud open revealed a much more intense smell than the citrusy hints I would get off of a piece out of the jar. There was a smell like a freshly opened ginger ale, followed by a heavy hash overtone with citrus peel undertones. Smelling this bud tickled the inside of my nose.

Smoke test comments:
The smoke on this sample was very intrusive and had a heavy presence going into my lungs. It seemed like it was fighting its way into my body. The expansion of the smoke seemed to happen so quickly even before it hit my lungs. The taste was astringent and had a flat citrus taste that reminded me a lot of ginger ale. I could taste a hashy undertone throughout each sample bowl.

Final comment:
I began to feel the effects of this sample almost immediately. I began to feel euphoric and dazed. I was pretty classically 'blazed' at the highs peak. There was a heavy warming sensation in my head that made me sway a little when I moved. At first it was difficult to focus my eyes but they soon became clear and relieved of any pressure. I had a nice relaxed mental and body high that persisted for multiple hours. I had an uplifting feeling in my stomach that made it feel very light. This light feeling became a hungry growl quickly. I was able to eat much more then I would regularly, I had a hunger that was deeply rooted within me that could not be quenched. This sample also made me very dehydrated and warm. I needed to drink a lot of fluids to constantly or else I would get pretty bad cotton mouth. The effects of this strain lasted roughly two and a half hours, With an extremely gradual decline from it's peak. Eating seemed to quickly dull the intensity of the high, I could smoke again right after eating and it felt like I had never eaten in the first place.

Above is a review of some Pez a friend of mine grew, from this same cut. Here are some other flowering pictures of this cut. I would love to get your take on them J, The smell is very loud from far away but up close there is a nice citrus aroma that is a little astringent and tickles the inside of your nose.

This one was grown using dominion organics

Hey TGH, I had always heard it was an old NL bagseed or selection. Had been looking for a good NL and when I couldn't find a good 1 in seed form someone suggested getting the Pez cut if I could. I hope it is at least a NL bagseed because I was hoping RENR and you could use it (the Pez) in that NL project RENR mentioned was a possibility awhile back. GL on the search and take care 1

Indeed KCS! I have been going off of the available information to me, even going back and comparing pictures of NL and Pez to see how similar they are.

Something about J's post hits home though and I am inclined to believe this random new user, his story sounds true and he also seems to be describing the same plant. If they are the same or not I want to know so that it can be properly labeled.

Supposedly there are other cuts of Pez in the WA area as well. Here is another thread on the subject.

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=194269

I've been getting into some pretty heated debates with Ghostly and others about this. Their version is a deep purple colored plant that smells like grapefruit and pepper

Edit: and in that thread ironically is J's other post!

TGH those pictures look very much if not exactly like the original Pez grown indoors and believe it or not the pics posted in the other thread by Ghostly look very much like a lot of the original Pez when grown outdoors. When reaching maturity there would be an overwhelming purple and gold coloration to the leaves when finished outdoors in western WA. Once trimmed the color was mostly all green with just some purple edges on the outdoor and just green on the indoor. It is plausible that these are the same strain grown with much different environmental stresses or lack of stress.

I think it is hard to pin point the genetic make up of Pez in order to breed a modern northern lights but all the clues point to a parentage similar to northern light parentage. It is common knowledge that the first northern light varieties were taken from Seattle to Amsterdam in the early to mid eighties in the form of female cuttings and what happened after that to get these into seed form is unclear to me. Northern lights shows a heavy Afghani genetic make up in the varieties I have seen but it has been said that of the first 5 or 6 varieties of northern lights which arrived as female cuts 3 or 4 showed a much more sativa set of traits. Simply put the northern lights was in Seattle when and where I bought the now infamous eighth and my impression of the buds from that day were a high quality Afghani hybrid but I had not knowingly seen any NL strain at that time. The northern lights strains I have come across since then may have some similarity to the pez but none have been a dead ringer.

Pink Pez , Purple Pez , Blue Pez , Cherry Pez , Lo-Pez ; I am not sure how to address these strains but if it is the original Pez I would not understand why one would choose to change the name. On that note I nicknamed one particular growers Pez 'the pepper pez' because it always lacked the fruity side of the distinct aroma ,this didn't go over well between me and the other grower but it was just something I said to get a giggle over some beers with the buds but it stuck. So yeah there is some peppery aroma available within the Pez. I am not sure what he did to bring out the 'pepper pez' side but I always assumed it was related to not flushing at the end of an all chemical grow and then speed drying it from plant to bag in say 3 days or less but those are just speculation at the time I did not want to step on that individuals toes by trying to get to the bottom of it..

We all just lay out there what we believe to be the truth and let the chips fall where they may.No reason to get heated although I know the feeling. If everybody who reads what you write believes it to a tee then you are probably not bringing any thing new or forgotten to the table. On a couple of occasions I have been told to my face things like "my buddy started the Pez" or "my buddy was the original breeder of the first Pez" I generally stick to an answer like well I would like to meet him which of course never pans out.

Those pictures I posted were from an indoor garden, PNWGardenofFunk's garden to be exact.

Thank you for your response. Would you be willing to answer more questions from a few other people? There is a LARGE controversy brewing on a local WA patient site, Ghostly and I over there along with a few others from around these parts, I am sure everyone would love to hear your take. Ghostly had grown this same cut, the one mentioned in this thread from my garden, and said that the two plants were for certain different, but it is hard to tell from just pictures.
