I've never grown in a swamp, but I will relate what I have seen.

Basicly you need to keep most of your plants root structure above the water level(so they can breathe). To do this, you use a tall bucket, planter , or a wide pipe, your planter of choice is placed in the swampy area in such a way that the roots can reach moisture, but the bulk of them are above the sitting water.

Some folks actually grow in ponds(sitting water) using long pipes stuck deep in the mud at the bottom of the pond, the pipe extends above the water level, with a well draining soil mixture at the top

Its actually a good way to grow, because the plants self irrigate, and swamps often contain plenty of green vegetation for camoflauge.

Another method I have seen for sitting water actually uses planters sitting in a floating device(intertube, foam, etc). Again , the bottom of the planter touches water, but a well draining soil mix is used, so the roots can breathe. The floating planter is loosley moored to a tree, etc, and can rise and fall with changing water levels in the given body of water without going under the water.

First off...... Welcome to IC!!
Backcountry I remember following your threads at OG,
very impressive. I'm glad you're here. :respect:

Now, to the thread topic, both methods delineated by Backcountry
are viable and successfull methods.
I lived on the gulf coast years ago in south Louisiana,
we used to use cypress stumps, lol
Anything to get the plants up out of the water.
Building mounds also works, if you can get up above flood stage. :chin:
Main thing is,, use your environment for you,
ya got water, good soil, and (I hope) good sun.
Get it up some and grow,, :woohoo:

Hey there toastmaster,
I like to grow right on the edge of swamp ponds...I usually dig down in the soil until I reach water..I then pile lots of good soil in the hole and put the small plants in that...when the roots need water, they just head downward..only problem with this is if the waterline comes up too much or if it's a real dry summer and the water drops..but then again those are the chances outdoor growers take...stay safe...

i remember seeing a few threads about this over at OG and always had kind of thought about it as there are a couple of swampy areas near me that might do pretty good. i think i might give it a shot with some of my bagseed this summer.

Look up a member named oldster1 he sucessfully grows in containers set directly in the water, it's a great way to harvest a grow with a minimal amount of maintenance.

I plan on a swamp grow using 55 gallon drums, cut in half, filled with soil and placed directly in standing water this season.

As mentioned in a previous thread it is important to know, that if you're using an area prone to high water or flood conditions that your containers be placed above the high water mark.

Planned properly, you shouldn't have to visit your grow location more than a few times during the season.....less visits to your guerilla grows reduces the chances, someone will see you, and minimizes creating paths, to your grow

good luck

Backcountry has been a great wealth of knowledge. He is always willing to help me or anyone else out. When most people got tired of answering the same old questions us newbies asked Backcountry was always patient and kind. Kudos Backcountry.

As far as the swamp grows goes the best threads I read where by twoheads. I plan on doing one this year. Look for standing water two inches or more. Mine is because of my friendly neighborhood beaver dam in a small creek.
Put a container (holes drilled in it) with a soil & peat moss mix.(Do not forget that peat moss needs some lime) Use some slow release ferts. If the water level is above 2 inches in the spring may not be a big problem, as your plants will not have fully rooted in the new container. The beauty of it is you can move container around to accommodate water level. No need to visit much because of unlimited water and ferts.
Not a completely accepted practice so rippers are not a huge problem either.

Everything I wrote came directly from TwoHeads posts.

I live within sniffin distance from the Everglades. I've done numorous grows in the glades, it can be very tricky, but at the same time it cn be very rewarding when you get to smoke your very own swampbud. Hit me up with a PM if you have any questions.

I knew some teenagers who grew in the Mangove swamps east of Miami, on the bayfront. They used buckets tied to tree branches up in the center of the canopy of dead Mangrove trees. It didn't stand out too much because it's pretty common for weeds to sprout in dead trees.

Start late in the season so the plant doesn't outgrow the container. Bring plenty of insect repellant containing a lot of DEET. Skintastic doesn't have enough, get something like Deep Woods Off or Sportsman's Max 40%. Plant plenty of extra plants because you're bound to lose a bunch to insects.

I would Purchase some Predator bugs to release on and around your plants right after they are planted.

Ideally, you should start your plants off indoors until they are strong enough to defend themselves. I know people who have seen lizards eat an entire cannabis seedling.

Container grows are much safer because the dirt has a lot of little bugs. Rootknot nematoads, for example, are a big problem in Florida. The potting mix you buy in the store is sterilized.

I never talked about this too much here are IC or OG, but i too lived in South Louisiana. I don't talk much about those grows down that way, but let me tell you. Those Coonass in the swamps, got it down very well. I've also followed Backcountry and his threads. The way the cajun did it when i was there in my younger child years. Was these floating rafts. They built these floating rafts that where around 3x3 or 4x4 and will just place the pots ontop of the raft and tire them to the cypress tree's or stumps. The area's i'm talking about are pretty much family area's where not to many people go near them. They take these little rafts and more them all over the swamp. They camouflage these raft's pretty well and when they do get words when a police boat might be coming in the area or a bird is going up to do a search. They then tire them together and take their mudboat and pull them to a safe area. I know your not looking to grow this big or even use a boat, but making some type of float or dock to get your plants out of the water line like others have stated. Those guys and families down South Bayou know how to grow some major swamp weed. Some member here also know i was gifted some seeds and alot of them. At a family Cajun funeral of a old family friend by the name of Blacky. Good old Cajun that passed away and gift me some seeds from his son. I'll be doing a thread on them next year. I hope the best and will be following all and any swamp threads. Living in the swamps for three years of my childhood years. Where some of the best years and funniest of my life. Good luck and can't wait to see what you do in the swamp.
Take care,
BG

Hey TM

I realy dont have much to add. Some of the best growers I know have done replied.

If there is a swamp then there should be a touch of high ground somewhere close. My problem with them REAL swampy grows is Cotton Mouths,Plus the flood flux. Prolly best to look around for that ridge {high ground} and inspect the "other" plants in the area. I test the soil by color, smell>>Peanut smell, and texture. If its real sandy then you will need to add a good mix.

There is some good methods for water growing,Be careful when using soil that is constantly wet as this could cause root rot.

Good luck and happy growing.
Hello to all my fellow growers thats replied:wave:
Peace!!
