EZ-Cloner review

I bought an EZ-Cloner and around day 8-10 days of me using it for the first time I got the slime (see infirmary sticky if you are unfamiliar with this issue). I went out and immediately bought a 400$ water chiller and set it to 74. Slime was held off for a bit enough for me to read about using Earthworm castings tea and I used the tea around day 15 or so. It took roots to show on some 25-30 days!!!! Ouch...

Second use: Clean it out with bleach water etc start it up a couple of days later. This time I forgo the 400$ water chiller and add 1 cup of earthworm casting tea and this is what I see on day 7-8 with 0 sign of slime:

Reservoir temp sits from 84-89 degrees 60 cuts done easy in one 30 site machine.

Could not be any easier or time efficient in both care time and grow time! I did not splice, cut, or do anything in anyway to induce all those roots up and down the stems. I cut the cutting off the plant, used a razor for an angled cut, dipped in clonex, and put it in the EZ-Cloner.

Bottom line: A lot of people on here told me not to purchase one and many said they were a complete waste of money. A lot of other people said they were great and well worth the money. I concur with the later. I can now take 60 cuts easily and not even look at them until they are ready to plant which now appears to be around 7-8 days.

so sick man. got er dialed. just a question k. why not just add 35% hydrogen peroxide every 2-3 days? il bet theyd be poppin sooner, like 5-7 days and way crazier roots too.....awesome pics, d

Peroxide unfortunately doesn't kill the slime according to the slime thread if I remember correctly; in-fact bleach did not even kill it. I believe I read multiple threads in there that it didn't eradicate it and would either cause problems with the plants or just keep the slime from getting overpowering. The only thing that completely killed it or kept it from appearing was something called Physan 20? and earthworm castings in the res (very low amount).

And if peroxide does work as well I don't see too much difference in adding 1 cup of earthworm casting tea which takes me all of 1-2 minutes to prep and it does all the rest on its own and another minute or two to add to my EZ cloner rez. If both ways really do work then I don't see a reason that either one should or should not be used other than you have to add peroxide more often.

shit, you didnt give me enough time to edit that. peroxide allows you to operate at higher temps because of the extra oxygen, so h202 would actually prevent any issues due to res temp probs, i had the same issue with a cloner, and same efin issue. i just added h202 every 2-3 days and it allowed me to leave the rez to 84-88 degrees, what new cuts love, and boom, calluses in 3 days, some popping in five. it was just a realy practical solution for me because i couldnt afford a cooler at the time, and worked out pretty good. nevertheless, those are bangin roots bra, haha, d

The initial post has me intrigued, are you attributing the speed to the worm casting tea? It seems so.

Ive tried perlite/wick cloners, diy bubble cloners, etc. Ive tried liquid karma, superthrive, Root 66, everything (and nothing). I even went as far as to buy the neoprene collars & a 1 1/4" drill bit. oh yeah, and Peroxide does not 'prevent any issues', it might delay them, but that's NOT prevention.

Personally ive settled on rapid rooters, I get close to 100% sucess rate, however they take close to 3-4weeks before i see roots like those in the first picture. I would prefer a quicker method.

Are you sure the picture is only 7-8 days, (Ive never see that many roots in a week), and can you repeat the results?

Positive on the time it freaked me out. I had bumps on day 2 which surprised me a lot. Whether the EWC tea was attributed to it or not I don't know, but I do know there is still no slime so it definitely worked on that.

warm temps + ewc tea = fast roots
what is the temp in the room where your ez-cloner is?
you only applied the tea once? what method did you use to brew your tea?

looks great; i've found that lower temps in the ez-cloner will delay rooting and higher temps will give you the slime without ewc tea; but higher temps plus tea seems to do the trick; since it is so cold where i am now i'm going to try a heater in my ez-cloner and see what happens

I won't say ez-cloners are my arch enemy but, I'm no fan. That said, many here use them and this seems like it could be the cure to their problems so, I'm ratting you out to Pontiac's Link-O-Rama. Ha!

Oh, What's the recipe for the tea and how much per gallon?

2 1/2 gallons of water
1/2 cup of EWC
table spoon of molasses

Don't know the temp of the room and next time I will probably add it again on the 4th day but only put one cup this time.

I have the ez30, and I put the pump on a timer, 30minutes on and 30 off and I didn't need to get a chiller.

Once I got the hang of it, I've had perfect success just like yourself.

I use the xstream, same stuff as this machine and i gotta agree totally, the most important thing todo is to clean your cloner well with bleach before/after use. Also having a high temprature like 25c is perfect, just make sure to turn it down when the roots start showing, i have now a 100% success rate.

I've got a EZ Clonner and have used it for several years with for te most part a 100% clone rate, The ownly time I lose a clone is because of my neglect, like forgetting to turn back on the pump after checking water level. I do use a chiller though 1/4 hp, and keep the temps at 75 and after rooted I turn it down to 68, works great.
Gonna try the tea and timmer to see how it works . Some may not like the EZ Clonner but I think its the best clonning method I've used

Wow, I'm going to have to try that.

I built a diy 100 site aero cloner and killed 98 of them due to the slime, and the 2 that rooted had one string for a root and the tops looked very sad, and that was after 30 days. I've been using rapid rooter ever since.

I'll have to bleach out my cloner and try the ewc tea, Thanks!

I ended up trashing the remaining ones a couple of days ago and never added anymore tea. Absolutely stellar :D Only added the tea once and 0 problems even at the end.

Hey guys, I'm an aeroponics grower. I use the EZ-120 cloner and Apollo beds. DMT and others mentioned hydrogen peroxide. That is the key to working with aero. The slime people refer to is Pythium, or root rot. It also smells bad, which is how you usually detect it.
I still get the problem now and again but by adding 35% H2o2, even when pythium is present, I can kill it and the plants/clones are healthy again. Forget bleach IMO. Peroxide has so many positives going for it that I wouldn't use anything else. Just don't get it on your hands/in your eyes.

Yes, Physan20 is safer than bleach and smells good, no nasty residue to rinse over and over. It kills algae, viruses, bacteria, and mold/mildew. It's what commercial greenhouses use to clean the floors and walls, and what have you. Only takes1-2ml per gallon and it's cheap. If you run a hydro system or any cloner machine I'd consider Physan to be a must-have, you never know when you'll need it, but someday you WILL.

u can also get physan20 cheaper at aquarium stores; what they use to clean those systems as well; i use it instead of bleach for everything; rinsing pots and they come out looking new not to mention i know nothing is alive on em... that and one of those scotchguard blue sponges that don't scratch plastic and you're set

A quart bottle of "Clear" developer from the local Beauty Supply shop should be less than $10 and comes in 40% strength. Nothing but water, H202 and Phosphoric acid as a stabilizer. You can eat off stuff cleaned with that. :D
(That's food safe 40% Hydrogen Peroxide)

Stay Safe!

Well I just wanted to say that I just tried the ewc tea and wow. Cut my time in cloner by half. Thanks for the idea and my willingness to try anything once. LOL
