Seed grow with some root pruning!

Heya all.

Wanted to play a lil with root pruning, eventhough I've been reading alot about it, and know many says it doesnt help shit... But like the idea, so lets see how it goes.

The plan is that they shall be vegging for total 2-2½ month (my flower room is ocupied till then) and start up in these homemade "about 0,2 l" pots -> go to 2 liters with "no bottom" -> and finally end up in 2 gallon smart pots.

Im vegging in a BudBox Small tent (0,75x0,75x1,6)m
The seedlings are "lifted" 50 cm in the air, and I've got a 15w fan blowing downunder, to make it unsuitable for the roots peeping down.
Lightning is a 125w cfl (6400K)
Medium: Biobizz Coco - (flushed with 6,0 ph plain water)

Genetics: (I love the Sharing is Caring part of this green world - thx brothers / donators)
5 x GHS Arjans Haze #2 fems. (cause I grew em in my second grow, and miss the special high - stupid to flower my mom without saving cuts)
5 x Magus Genetics - Motavation. (Got em from Mosca during the ic 420 cup - thx. alot brother)
5 x Karma Genetics - Jack O'nesia (Amnesia Haze x Jack Herrer #22) (Thx Karma)
5 x Head Seeds - Casey Jones
6 x Kromes Triangle x NorthernLights/Leopard Kush
5 x D. Dutch#6 x C99 (Mosca cross)
4 x C99#2xC99 (Mosca cross)
5 x C99#1xC99 (Mosca cross)
5 x C99 x SWTDD (Mosca cross)

I started soaking the seeds yesterday. Total 45, and room for 40. Aiming for 20-25 girls ready for flowering.

Today - 32 beans allready sprouted - and they hit the coco right away.

High Phillthy.

Thx m8 - We're started up in good time, so it will be a long w8 for the reults.

What really made me wanna try this out was this Scheme (from a thread about smart pots in here)
pruneprincip.jpg

and I think that the rootsystem of the top right plant - looks the most like my previous canna roots - in an ordinary pot. The upper part of the plants looked healty allright and yielded nice. But when I cut up the rootmass, I can see that about 70-80% of the root masses are tangling around by the plastic. And in the middle of the medium - not the amount of roots I would like to see.

i am interested in how this turns out too>>>>>> but i do have a question >>>>what is the goal behind using this method ???? not to sound like a dick but i dont get the purpose

JACKtheREFFER - dunno man, letz see if anything good comes out of it. Last summer I told myself it was the last time I would run a grow at that time, as the temps gets about 30-35 degrees on hottest days (night for the girls) - so guess this also is a good/bad excuse for givin it another try this summer.

And I like trying new things, as manny other growers around.

Cheers

Get down Smeden, my Brotha! I find your thinking and type of grow very interesting because you are experimenting and trying something new!! Hell yeah-- who knows your experiment might prove to produce, healthier plants, bigger yielding plants, or something we may not have observed before, or maybe not... But how are we to know if we don't try different and unusual techniques? Bravo to you!

My question is are you running a standard type of grow in pots with coco? This way you can gauge the test potting technique versus the standard to get a better idea of the differences. Just a thought.

Peace, Mosca

Heya Mosca bro. Thx for your kind words and YES. I have 20 x 2 gallon smart pots and for the rest - 8 liter normal square pots. So it depends on the number of ladies of the 45, where 5 are fems... The 8 liter will be final pot, so expect to veg in these for 2-4 weeks.
Looking so much forward on growing ur Cindy cross!

I like airpots a little better....we use smart pots too, but with the airpots you can actually see the roots creep out a little.

Sure Mosca bro, this pic was taken the day before yesterday. Pretty uniform sizes at the moment and 5-6 "thats haltering a lil behind" so think their doing their thing.
dsc06252r.jpg

Allmost all of the plants have about 1 cm of main root pointing directly down beneath the pots. The tip (1 mm or so) is slightly burned, so it looks like its working like the scheme. Will post root pics, as soon one plant have over 1 root out.

Miss Blunted - I like the design of the airpots too, but thinking of cost and the easy reuseability on the smartpots. Made me go for smartpots.

Thx guys.

And the first "multiple" roots have appeared now.

In this pic, the hps yellow beams helps showing the dead tips.

And another plant
dsc06352.jpg

Just made ½ cm air between pots, to get som air up between and to be sure they dont PAIR UP and grow into the neighbour pots.

And a last one.

I really think that the pruning of the first main root helps in keepin em the same height. None of them this time are long and fragile - and I dont even have any wind blowing on top of them for strenghtening. And also, the seeds sprouted with 1-4 days diff, and still so equal height. Think Ive ealier read about growers, trimming their roots from example a sprinkle cloner at the same length, to get uniform sized plants.
