Last week I was fortunate enough to meet an ICMag member, Quaze, who brought with him a choice sample of the Pure Equatorial Sativa which many of you have probably seen in the Flower Pix forum. It's a pure landrace sativa, with a very distinctive plant structure during flowering. I don't have any of my own photographs, I need to buy myself a new digi cam, but as the buds I'll be testing are direct from the grower himself, I guess I can get away with using Quaze's pics..

As this is a pure sativa, I've deliberately laid off smoking the last couple of days, so I can give the Quaze a true report of flavour & high. My initial impressions when smoked in 'dam were very good, so lets see how it fares in the cold light of day.
Strain: Quaze/Quasar Pure Equatorial Sativa (0.4g dried buds)
Smoking Method: Clean glass pipe
Visual
The dried buds are 4-6" in length, with clusters of tiny, hard, frosty calyxes sitting on delicate stems. Even the main stems in the buds are extremely thin & fragile. There are very few brown hairs, and even fewer visible leaves, trimmed or otherwise. Everything is highly frosted, from the calyxes through to the stems - the grower tells me that under the microscope, trichomes are visible on the fragile stems. These are beautiful, distinctive looking buds.
Smell
When ground, the aroma of this herb is complex, with a sweet, citrusy base, punctuated by overtones of pine & sandelwood. The initial bouquet is something of a lemon & lime fragrance, which is quickly followed to your nose by the richer, more earthy tones. All in all a delightful smell, which is quite strong even in the unground buds.
Taste
First taste in the mouth has hints of the citrus detected when the ground bud was smelt, but the other main elements to the taste, the pine & sandelwood, also come through in abudance, more so than in the ground bud. Inhaling, the smoke is very soft, through the pipe, and in a pure spliff too. There is no harshness or brashness in the throat, with little expansion in the lungs. Exhaling, there are still hints of sandalwood, but with a definite infusion of what to me tastes like parsnip, or sweet potato, all the while with that citrusy base to it. A very tasty, very pleasureable smoke.
High
As I'm writing this, I am seriously high. My brain is still able to process the thoughts required, my fingers are still able to hit the right keys, but I feel euphoric, floaty & light headed. It's quite a racy high, and as somebody who normally suffers with mild anxiety, that would normally bother me, but I don't feel unsettled, there is just a nice edge to things. After 25-30 minutes the high is stronger, and I'm starting to wonder if a more modest bowl was in order. It's all in the interests of science, I guess. As somebody who has to be creative by trade, I'm always after a good muse, and I feel like this could be a great "ideas weed", if I could channel the energy I'm feeling. Music sounds great, and visual stimulus is quite hypnotic too, but part of me wants to get up & do something.. this is probably a great party weed! After about an hour, the effects start to wear down, although I'm still very high & tripped out, the racy, euphoric edge has blunted somewhat, and I feel ready for a Quaze spliff to liven things up.
I was fortunate enough to be gifted one of the first pieces of iso-hash from this plant, so I will be posting a report of that soon too. Quaze, the dude, is great guy, really friendly, and clearly an excellent, patient grower too. If anyone is heading to A'dam, I definately recommend you hunt for some of Quaze's pure sativa!
