yes here in the soggy land of lbm's it is no surprise they're poppin up, since some of this soil was gathered straight from the forest, but kinda crazy the mycelium stayed in tact enough for that long to pop up now~ I guess spores are pretty amazing "things" loL! I wonder if the lbm would have been able to develop under 24 hour light. The drops of dew on the leaf tips were a trip to see! It created its own dew. Haven't observed a bunch for critter life, its all covered, I guess it is a cover crop after all, ;) but I know its happily churning along in its little micro world trip. Its about to get invaded by giant trees in a few days :)

Lucky to have such a sweet kick down of amazing soil that other plants are known to be thriving in. Slow veg with some relocating and sickness from a couple gallons of water I used from my new place. Recently cloned, cleaned them up a bit, and dosed with ACT before being thrown into bud just a few days ago. After that first watering gone wrong, I set up a 30 gallon rainwater collection :) My "guide" grower friend identified some root aphids, and luckily they were all dead! lotsa good bugs and happy worms being found. This will become a no-till garden if all goes as planned - ha. Currently reading Teaming with Microbes ( i know some of the author's info is debated) and looking at the beginners study guide to soil thread. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=207215

Mostly mazar, some blue mystic, a few g13/haze, either a blue orca or the one, and one The Black.

Since the ACT (and before even), the g13xhaze is still hating it, but everything else is doing much better. No room next round for this picky sativa dom I guess, as this is a medical grow with a numbers game. I'll post some before and after.

Enjoying watching them grow and thankful for all the help I've had to get growing :) Any and all input is grately appreciated

Thanks for the link to the beginners soil thread. I'm tuned in to your thread now. Good luck!

Thank ya chief, and all who have been chiming in~ I guess its time for a final weigh in on that last round...I'd say that I had about 2 lbs and 2 oz. off my 2k watts if I was allowed to, but since this was a legal grow I would want to say that I did hit my 1.5 limit and had to stop counting there and um donate the rest? ;) Ooh, smoke report time!

The mazar was the mazar... looooved the soil, easy goin' plant. quite potent and neither capt.cheeze or I are able/want to smoke much of this. was ridiculously resinous this time around, finally pushing me over the edge with my slight cannabis allergy. Even sifting the trim for bud for ganja oil making, it was crazy irritating a couple weeks later even. Tastes just like it smells... so nice. Very feminine~ Musky earth, with jasmine floral high notes on a nice green hit. Stoney Baloney.

The G13 is that same old lemony dirt haze, turned out super chunky and frosty... just showed the original guy we got it from a couple years ago the few nice nugs I kept and he definitely raised his eyebrows in one whiff, we just did a couple pulls off a bong of it about 2 hrs ago and I'm still super stoned. Yup.... sticks to your ribs. I finally felt proud of myself at this point about this crop and was happy to take his compliments on a job well done. It was funny because this plant is the one I was the most worried about, and it proved to be the biggest yielder. That one pic of the g13 on the sheet was from ONE plant!

The Blue Mystic was pretty solid, super frosty, and turned an amazing lavender faded into fuchsia color that was really fantastic, although didn't change the flavor much. Couldn't believe how fast this bud dried! Popular seller, most people are really drawn to it, and a lot of people stopped by my vending table just to get a closer look at it... I think its just good daily smoke... does the job... I have nick named it my "mom bud".

The Black~ ahhh mmmmmm... although for some reason some of the berry/merlot/spicy flavor was lost, the color and smell were absolutely lovely, a little less berry but quite earthy and a hint of a merlot scent, and a bit of the spice remained. The taste had changed significantly under my thumbs, tasted just like EARTH, and not just any earth, the earth it was grown in! Trippy! Luckily not too fishy or anything :) Just DIRTY! should be named "black Earth"! Got a nice quart jar full of it even after giving a lot away to patients at the market. Was feeling like it needed to be shared so people remember how beautiful this plant is!

Well, time to go cut the grass downstairs! It actually grows pretty damn fast, it will be cool to see how these babies take over the cover crop as they slowly progress and adjust to their new little nests. Have a loooong way to go before I'm gonna be ready for another flower cycle. maybe one full moon from now? If not two more weeks later on the next new mn.

Peace out home slices, thanks for tuning in.

P.S. I would like to add an herb and veggie corner off to the side, esp. now that i have an extra 1K just installed. Does anyone have any advice on setting up herbs and veggies with your ladies?? Any reason NOT to do it is what I'm really asking~ unwanted pests or molds I don't know about? Feel free to P.M. me about it! Mahalo!

Nice write up MGD. Those sound very appetizing. I have set up a variety of plants with my herb. I've had basil, pepper, and a variety of young seedlings in with both veg and flowering. I've got a nice array of plants lined up to hang out on the fringes for the next few runs.

The cover crop is pretty new to me. So when you plant your clones do you just hollow out a circle in the middle of the cover crop and plant it or do you remove the cover crop?

yup! just cut through the little carpet of roots with a small knife and loosen up a little nest immediately around the cut. drop in, wish it well, water, and manicure around the site for optimal light exposure. The exact care regimen of the cover crop would depend on what you're growing and environmental factors like light, water, size of individual worlds, er... buckets. I have a variety of stuff mixed in as a cover crop. Diversity is the spice of life right!? bunch of oat grass and peas, clover etc.... You can definitely fine tune your cover crop to be more ideal for your garden's needs, micro clover is talked about a lot, maybe it was chickweed too... not sure what all the good options are but its available on this site.

As far as maintenance for the cover crop~ all I do is cut the grass like a little lawn and keep it trimmed, while leaving alone the clover beneath that canopy of grass unless its overtaking. Keeping the height of the cover crop lower than the babies is what you're shooting for. I cut most of the peas down and let a few hang over the side who were behaving :) The combination of the clippings being thrown on top (drowning out light) as well as the plant occupying more of the individual environment (roots taking over as well as leaves blocking more light to the cover crop), will eventually dominate the situation, or.. bucket, more than the clovers and oats can, and the bugs will be drawn to serve the cannabis plant instead of the dying off cover. Maybe one of the experts can confirm all that if its even precise. I'm sure that by flower (another month or so) most of the cover crop will have died off and be food for the just-about-to-go-in-to-bud plants/micro life in the soil. :) :) :)

cover crops

Great info MGD. I use oat grass in my large potted "money trees"(some type of walnut tree) but I've never thought of bringing them into the garden. you have inspired me to experiment with oat grass throughout the growth cycle. cover crops are a handy technique.

Thanks for the inspiration,

Chief

The ladies got a full service spa day with me today~ cut and style, and some fresh rainwater treatment for rehydration~all natural wild rainwater, its the latest craze at the spa ;) after that we did a little photo sesh. did floor detail and scrubbed it up till I was blinded by the light...and replaced my water catchers back under the buckets, with a new addition of red brick so none of the soil is able to sit in standing run-off. I was having to empty the water trays after every watering :/

my entrance is also changed to a different side of the room and is now right by the back door... which gives immediate access to both of my water sources. I have a little runoff waterfall as well as a rain barrel both right out the back door. I barely have to get rained on to collect water, and I only have to run it right inside :) Gotta love that! Now with my entry switched, I also have a nice little space for experiments with some seedlings/vegetables/herbs. I was really captured by the lbm living so harmoniously with the cannabis.
