Neat thread. I currently have an 8 lamp Badboy with Topstar veg lamps. I really like the Badboy.

I might get a 16 lamp version and throw it in my 5 x 5 flowering tent.

Do you all have a lamp recommendation? Not sure who makes the best HO T5 lamps.

Thanks!

Sweet, I was unaware the 8 bulb would actually fit.
I have two 4x4'' T5s hanging side by side. They would fit inside your 2x4 footprint almost prefetcly with no cfls needed in the back corners.I think a single 8 bulb would probably fit perfect. I researched using a tent and was going to buy a 4x8 T5 and put them in a hydro hut tent originally.

Bad Boy has their own brand with a special coating, so they say but I have no experience with them. hydrofarm also has their own brand as well and that's what I use...

To tell the truth they're probably ALL made in the same factory in China, just branded to the seller...

My 4X 8 BB has vented reflectors for each pair of bulbs. Plus, it has no back plate, so heat dissipates, extending bulb life.

I would get 2 X 4 bulb, or 1 @ 4 bulb and 2 @ 2 bulb, to use for side lighting once the plants mature

To ask about red or blue is somewhat of a misnomer, though actinic blue/red are available. Plants need ALL spectrums, not just PAR peaks.

Zoomed Florasun is a very good bulb to use for both, BUT, during flower, you want more red, ie UVL Red Life. See my journal for results of mixing various bulbs

PF:
Have you looked at both of them? How much do you need the extra venting? I ask because I find the top of the light to be a good working table.

What do they use for a reflector? The HydroFarms uses that highly polished metal that seems to move the heat and light very well. The top of my light hardly gets warm. ???

Also the one place that I looked 'Greners' said "tubes Not included", but they were at almost the same price for the 8 tube, as I paid for mine With tubes???? $220 seems expensive w/o tubes.

Just curious as to your findings.
I do appreciate your input! There always seems to be something I haven't seen before.

Final harvest report

Final harvest report

Well there's good news and bad news ya'll.

Bad news is; loosely trimmed and dried, I got 15.75 oz of the two plants. Probably a couple of oz of loose leaf trim. Saved it to use for first batch butter.

Good news; It's Ak-47. One hit wonder shit for a lightweight like me. Thx ZZ... Smokes great, still a bit rank, but maybe it'll mellow a bit with time.

Even better, the cost per oz in Electricity came in just under $8 US per oz. ... The cost of the light, blumats, fans, etc., is well covered by the production from the first run.

I guess you Can grow herb under T5s after all.

:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Thx ZZ for all the help.

I was literally just thinking the same thing. These jars are making me drool.

I'm putting off the next round at this point, although I'm looking forward to growing some additional strains, for variety's sake if nothing else.

Going to wait till I don't have to heat the Doghouse, too much though. :)

Haven't seen this much in one place since it showed up in bricks, in the early 70s. Moved up to the 2 quart jars, as you suggested. Much less shelf space involved, over the 1 qt jars.

Waiting for the little clones (seed plants) to ripen out. Set'em in the window and they started to reveg..... NOT what I had in mind. Oh well, this too shall pass...

I didn't appreciate the smells inside, long term. So thinking of running the shed, next time.

From what I've done this round, with the T5s, I'm wondering if I even need to 'reflect' the light back onto the heads. Not much 'side illumination' from what I observed. Think I may pick up another 2'x4' fixture and just hang them side by side. Letting two plants cover the whole 4'x4' area.

What strains are you running?

Wondering also how large an area you are growing?

Also have you completed other runs with this setup, and strains if so? I'm asking because you're using half the watts/lumens per fixture that I am. So I'm curious as to the outcome, if I'm putting out too much wattage for a 2'x 4' area. I'm able to run just 4 tubes with the Hydro set up (2 on each side or 4 in the middle).

I've considered using two fixtures in a 'roof' configuration, but hesitate to stray from a proven system.

Looking forward to seeing your results.

Glad you found the thread.

ZZ she says it doesnt make her sleepy like mature meds do. Probably a result of the thc being unregognized. Idk.

Legal, no I have not compared. However, the BB has a ~ 3" spine + crossbars on each end

Kool... That's what I was thinking but wanted to make sure as there may be other reasons. I like my med a little Racy as well so might try taking it a little early and see what's up...

Im a work in progress but to answer your question, since i spent years with no selection just brick weed, i have been growing multiple strains each run to find what i like and get familiar with growing.

Under the 12/12 now i have 2 bag seed one of is a funky mutant leaves from ger came out wrinkly and old looking NO branching AT All slow short but stinks of greatfuit funk. It might yield 12 grams at finish, but im curious.

One Darkstar S1, by total accident i put mom in the back yard when she stretched to much and she got knocked down by a critter. Top cola got coverd in soil. When i fond her splinted the stem and she recovered, the top cola sprouted balls polinating the lower buds. She looks/smells dank.

A bigbud x northern lights

A Snowfruite

A kosher kush

A awsome Norther light blue.

All untopped untrained.

Oh, i grow in a 5' x 5' x 6' tent now but before that i used jumpstart tbars to hang the lights. I had to keep my plants under 18 to 20 inches. Back then i had one 4 foot 4 bulb T5 over the tops and one verticaly hung to max light density and though i could only four plants this way it worked well.

I like the rooftop formation, four point to adjust to the tops, and a i lean mine to focus light in. I added the kessil 150 reds as side lighting to hit the stems and lower budsites but only added them in Jan on this run.
