Apollos Mist and bio-buckets {the big switch}

 Well here we go new run, new genes, new system, same safe cab.
First i would like to thank Big Toke for his inspirational threads and clear detailed descriptions/instructions on the bio-bucket system, and Rez for getting these gene to me and the rest of the world. :respect:

Well sets start with the system. I went with the bio-buckets for the ease that they seem to offer in the fool proof department, they are supposed to be forgiving and fluxuations is a natural part of this system as it is a "active culture" in the water.
I know that you say that you should not use anything less than 5 gal buckets but hey adaptation is a part of nature So I needed to adapt for my situation.

So this is my 3x2 cab. I have the res sitting under the buckets and a 90cfm cpu fan blowing air in to the chamber it keep the ambient air in that part below 70 and so is the h2o with highs of 75ish.

I ran 1/2" feed lines to the bottom of the 3 gal buckets with 1.5" drains 1.5 in from top of bucket. I did not mount the 6" baskets under the lid as at the time i needed full access to the basket as i do not veg in my cab so i needed to be able to put fully veged plants in to the system.
The drain lines feed to a 3" main drain :pointlaug (he said main drain...) that then dumps to the res below. It has about 8-10+ in of drop and plenty of force to churn the water to acceptable levels of DO.
I have a 3/4" intake to the external pump. I forget what the gph are but it was an upgrade from my 300+ so i think i got at least 650gph. I defanatly gets the water flowing!

The roots are already showing great growth and it has only been about a week. I am loving this new system. Thank you Big-Toke

So on with the show

Top view of the Apollos mists I am running 4 from seed and looking for sex now. they are about 4 weeks old and in the 1st week of flower. I took 2 clones from each and those are rooted and doing fine just awaiting for a place for the lucky ladies with certain doom for all males.

these are the seedlings

i did not top this one it gust grew like that.

tight spacing this is my favorite.#2

and the rest

#3

#1

And with that I say thank you Rez for your work and these mean green genes :woohoo:

I'll be updating every other week or so. I hope you enjoy the show

Thank you Sleepy i had originally planed on putting 6 in there as it worked on paper. However once all the peices were put in place it would have been a nightmare. Plus i did not like it when I ran all 6 sites in my 6" tube system. It got to overgrown. It took me a good day to configure the lay out. It is still temperary as I need to replace the shelf the buckets are sitting on and i need to hardline the plumbing. I want to replace all those cheep drip line valves, they suck....well more of a PITA. I'll put picts later when i get around to it.

Big Toke thank you. I hope i can do you system justice in my little cab. I will be LST these ladies to fill out the 3x2 space. I read and re-read your threads many times to try to adapt your go big style with my at home style ~`; }
I think i got everything downsized apropriatly. Not to small lots of water flow. Let me know if you have any words of advice as i am open for sugestion.

Thanks again

That's gorgeous man, well done. Hopefully my Apollo Mists turn out that nice. I have 8 going in DWC right now. Only about 2 weeks old.

Thank you spliff. Well i think i am going to be sad and happy at the same time. My #2 is a boy........ tomorrow i should be able to confirm, what a bummer. I also think that #1 is a dud(e) as well. both of those were the tightest plants of the group.
Oh well, I guess it is time to start making my own seeds as this is one KILLER male with crystals already and an internodal spacing to rival my sour bubble. Hey what the hell a sourbubble x apollos mist and some apollos mist f2's should make some fine freebees to my close friends and interesting outdoor projects for this next season (like i really have time to tend to an outdoor grow as well :YaRight: lol......) I think ill keep him around for future projects{(c99xgrapefruit)x AM, petrolxAM} it's all just fun for me as i grow for my personal satisfaction :canabis: .

Awesome man, I'm looking forward to making some Apollo Mist crosses too.
I've got some Casey Jones coming up to cross this time around.

Two other crosses I'm looking to make in the immediate future:
Apollo Mist x Love Potion #1 (Columbian Gold x G13 Sativa)
Apollo Mist x Destroyer (Meao Thai x Mexico/Colombia)

Hoping for some super nice and unique 4 way mommies to keep around.

Again, good luck man, and be sure to let us know how your crosses go!

proper turnover exchange/rates = zero dead spots = good water/fall drop = a great crop!! That’s the formula for any successful Bio-System no matter how you build it…….

time has come

time has come

Thanks Big Toke. I figured that as long as you have good exchange rates and DO levels things should be great. The growth in this system surpasses my old system by a long shot. I have about 3/4" inch growth per day from these ladies in here :woohoo:
Today i had to pull the males, a perfect 50/50 rratio on the 4 seeds that i popped. The bummer part is that the 2 males were the most compact of the group. They had teh tightest internodal spacing. I replaced them with 1 of each of the remaining females that i took clones from before the switch. So that leaves me with #3 & #4 (pict's to follow).
I also took #2 and striped it down to just the growing tip and put him in some soil and kept him in the cab. I want to save some of his pollen as he already has FAT sacks and its been :chin: .... 2 weeks in 12/12. :yummy:
Along with him i have put 2 sour bubbles in 3" soil pots going for some organic sour bubble sticks! :canabis:
they are only about 4" tall and have been in the soil for about 1 week with roots for about 1 week prior to the soil.

I'll get my picts uploaded and show ya

As far as my grow height i have 2.5 feet from teh top of the bucket to the roof. I am hoping to remodel the cab befor the end of this grow to give me 3 feet of height.
It is always a work in progress.

Actually to be honest I was looking for total cabinet height, though that works in addition too. I'm trying to get a feel for the freasibility for me to start a bio bucket cabinet grow. Thus far this thread has been very inspiring to me, especially since you're growing my fav buds.

Keep up the good work brother.

PS: What are the noises like coming from your cabinet? Could you see this working stealthily within a cab? I don't need all out stealth resistant to super close scrutiny, just can't draw unnecessary attention.

Thank you Spliff I am glad someone has found some inspiration from my little project.
My cab is aprox 5'8"t X 3'w X 2' deep (aprox)
As far as the noise in a quiet room you can here the fans and the waterfall. I have installed a fountain in the room and have a fish tank s well. i also have a fan that circulates the air in the room and covers for the fan noise.
I can make it quieter but i need to do some work and get new fans and what not. I want to get a 440 6" inline http://www.hydroponics.net/i/248041 and run it at like 75-80%. thats 350cfm aprox and currently i have a 265 dayton and it is not quiet.
What is the dimentions of your cab?

Well right now I work in two different 3ft tall cabs in rubbermaid DWC. I custom build the cabs, and will do the same with my next, your cab is very near what I was thinking. I'm going to use a 250W HPS + 250W MH for flowering. Have you found that you need all of 350 cfm to ventilate that thing, or is this first time flowering in there?

Thanks Nukn and Milonix
Spliff I have run this cab for about 2 years now and the 265 dayton has done a great job with the help of some 100+cfm CPU fans and a cool tube. I would like to try and run it all on one and seal it up much better than it is so i need to have the high cmf rating for all the duct work i will be requireing it to travel. This will also help with the reductions of "air" noise.
I will also bee getting a controller for it to vary the speed of the fan to help with noise.

I have had it hooked up 3 different ways now.
~dayton+closed circut cooltobe and 2 CPU fans pulling through carbon filter
~1CPU fan+CC cooltube & dayton pulling through carbon filter
~cooltube to dayton pushing through filter

I would really like to get my system to have the filter inside the cab with the air flow like this:
through C.filter to cooltube to fan and out cab. To achieve this i will need some bends in my vent tubeing. I was also hoping to add another 400 in there to help dispurse the light more evenly so the added CFM would be nice.
Thanks for stopping by

Well here were go with what you all love to see. Picts! :woohoo: :canabis:
first up is a couple of group shots of my cab fully loaded. I have 4 Apollos Mist in bio-buckets. I have narrowed it down to just 2 females out of the 4 germed beans. I filled the 2 buckets holding the unfortunate males with a 10 day veg clone of each remaining gal. I took 2 cuts of all 4 before the flip. I also have 2 Sour Bubble bx1 in Uncle Malcoms organic soil mix and my favorite Apollos Mist plant in veg (a male) transfered to the soil.

And here is that hansome fella

Here are the ladies day 16. It is kinda hard to get solo picts of them in the buckets but i tell you the picts just do not do it justice.

The group

As far as the buckets go I love them and so do the plants. I have not seen growth like this with any other system that i have used(not many: soil, DWC,6"bio-tubeNFT) This surpasses all of them. Take a look at the roots they love it. The brown is particles from the floranova/licious/plus products along with liquid karma the e.c. is around 1.6 and stays so stable I have to juice up once every 10-15 gal refil. I add about 2.5 gal every other day so.

Thank you all for stoping by

Nice setup raygun. I also am an apollo fan. I've been growing in dirt and just switched to hydro, & loving it. I made my first cross out of rez's apollo mix. Looking good, keep up the good work and updates.

I am tinkering with a closet bio-bucket design my self.
I love my bio-buckets, imo, the easiest way to grow.
