Down with T5 Tek lights! New T6 Fluoros...

Dear Fluorescent Light Fanatics,

There is some new technology that is now available that will make those super-expensive T5 Tek Light ballasts and bulbs obsolete both in terms of price and lumen output. Until now, if you wanted the Super High Output of a T5 Tek light you would have to pay around 200 to 300 dollars for a 2 to 6 bulb ballast. You could buy cool white T5 tubes or warm daylight T5 tubes and those were the only two colour options available and you liked it. You wound up living in a van down by the river because you spent your rent money on these ridiculously expensive ballasts....

Allright Fluoro Fanatics.....get ready to say :woohoo:

Remember the T8 electronic fluorescent ballasts that are available for 50 dollars at the Home Despot? Well now these T8 ballasts can be retro-fit with a brand new generation of fluorescent light-bulbs called "T6" bulbs (I know this can be confusing....bear with me if UB a newby) that provides a 10 to 40 percent lumen increase over ordinary T8 bulbs. This effectively turns any old T8 electronic ballast (50 dollars) into a T5 Tek light ballast (200-300 dollars).

But wait......it gets better :woohoo:

The new generation of T6 bulbs come in a huge variety of spectra from warm daylight to 10,000K blue bulbs which are optimal for cuttings. You can mix and match colours if you want and perform werid experiments too. The sky is the limit! Okay get ready.....here is the website. Let me just say that I am not affiliated with any company whatsoever. But to my knowledge this guy is the first dude to offer these new bulbs on the entire Internet and believe me I have looked around. I have not seen these bulbs in Home Despot or any Aquarium store either.....so click this link:

http://www.naturallighting.com/store_front.cfm?&parent_id=54

to see more information on T6 bulbs. Down with T5 bulbs and ballasts! Long live the T6 retro-fit bulbs in a T8 electronic ballast! (I know it is confusing)

-kind regards gp

Interseting, I don't use the T5. But this new affordable option might be worth looking into for any new cabs being put together...

T8 equipment

T8 equipment

Hey guineapig...
Are you aware of any T8 equipment that would have as many as 8 bulbs like some of the T5 Tek?
Thanks

well i have not personally seen an 8-bulb T8 ballast......but I do know that each 4-bulb ballast costs one-quarter of the cost of a T5 4-bulb Tek ballast.....so you could even buy two T8 ballasts for half the cost!

Also, the other huge benefit here is the variety of spectra that t8 bulbs come in.....it is really incredible.....10,000K bulbs for cloning and vegetative are superior to the "cool white" bulbs.....the shortest internodes of any fluorescent.....and you can mix and match! Someone could potentially make lots of money selling a unit to hydro stores if they get on the ball right now.....but i just like spreading the information for free! -kiind regards, gp

Thanks GP!! Good info as I was about to buy a few more T5s. I use two, 4 bulb 24" T5 lights for mothers and they work great.

Thanks

The T6 lamp will work with electronic ballasts, 32 watt up to 55 watt.
Lumen output will be about 3200 with a 32 watt T8 ballast. You would have
to replace ballast with T5 HO55 watt to operate at max wattage of 4500
lumens.

u guys are crazy

use HID or shoplights, or t8 fixtures, seriously... i use some high-lumen hardwired 2 prong push-in base compacts, just because i got a good deal, you guys are best suited to use t8's stacked..... if the pin spacing on the t6 fits the t8 socket and the wattage doesn't exceed whats on the ballast you should be ok. :) never heard of using higher wattages than what it is rated for...well i have but it really is WRONG..especially when manipulating the fixtures for use in our hobby.

play it safe and KISS (keep it simple shithead)

atm, me too, but whatevers around..

if you guys care, i have done experiments with clones and they like mixed bulbs (each at different spectrums) best.
in fact,
2 days ago i just added a 35 w hps to my clone chamber to supplement the daylights, but really, i use whatever flouro (fcl crew in) is around for seeds/clones, for vegging is what i am reffering to with the mixed bulb thang.

hope it helps

well...i think it is worth reading....thanks gp for the post -ct :pointlaug

Seriously though thanks for this information, as always! You're my favorite guineapig!

BTW, I saw a "universal" T8/T12, electronic ballasted, 2-lamp fixture from WalMart for $8.99 or $9.99. I forget which, because the 99-cent pricing always confuses me down the road... damn!

it says very clearly output will vary with input. t8 ballasts put out 32 watts. 32 watts in= 32 watts out guys. Unless someones light meter reads differently. The cri and output sure are nice at 55watts though.

So you're saying that 32 watts will equal 32 watts on any type of lighting? 32 watts of input on incandescents will result in the same output as a 32 watts of HIDs (if such things existed)?

NEW T6 flouros...

NEW T6 flouros...

Hi All! The new T6 flouro tubes are variable wattage tubes...they are 32w-40w-55w depending on the ballast in the T5 or T8 fixture....and the various
lumans they each produce....KOOL.....LOL!!!

check these OG Kush babys under flouros, and these are standard 40w OTT-
Lite plant tubes 2200 lumans each a total of 4 tubes @ 8800 lumans in two 4' fixtures....the same strain under HID light is great also, but I noticed a differance, the bud is better smelling, tasting, looking, and just as potent.....but
with less yield....

Peace!
