Purple Kush Konfusion?

Can someone help me/us get all the info straight on the Purple Kushes floating around?

From what I gather after all of the searching is that there seem to be four different cuts floating around with the same name...

Let's see if I have this right...

Garberville PK... aka Swerve's Cut
Mendocino PK
Kyle Kushman's PK
"K's", PK

Are there any others? Are any the same with different names? For instance, I was told that the GV/Swerve cut and the KPK might be the same... yes, no?

Which is the authentic (first), PK cut? Which is the best? Which is not worth trying?

Welcome to ICMAG! And i think you have some good questions... All the info i know, about any PK's is that...K's PK is very, very similiar to Purple Erkle!

Kyle Kushman's "Purple Kush" is the plant that made him famous as a photograph of it made the cover of the "New Yorker" magazine about 12 years ago. It was not a weed publication and the article just stated how much real money is made by indoor gardening based on the black market forces and the technology that were in place then (grow lights, seeds, hydro systems,etc). In the article it is stated by the grower (assumably Kyle) that the plant was found in a group of Northern Lights x Purple Indica seeds. Kyle was living out East at the time and soon became a writer for Hight Times Magazine.

I think some confusion comes from the fact that Kyle now lives in the Mendocino Area of N. Cali.

However, the Purple Kush in Northern Cali has been there long before Kyle made his pilgrimage out West. I cannot tell you the exact pedigree. But I would assume that the Mendocino and Garberville versions are the exact same as this is prime herb growing country here in N. Cali. It would be really easy for one grower to give another clone to a fellow grower. The Green Triangle (Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity Counties) is known for the amount of MJ produced there, both indoor and outdoor.

I would assume Swerve's version is that from the Mendocino area...So which is the original? I'd say the N. Cali cut is...But Kyle's definately has a good pedigree. If you have access to them get Both!

All I remember is the article around somewhere in which *I believe* that kyle was talking about breeding his Purple Kush. Said something about the inbreeding(I think) making it herm, and he stopped his project after that. No idea about the lineage or what came first, but I hope that helps maybe a little.

Edit: On second thought, it may have been the cut that was starting to herm..but I'm not sure now...

Yeah, Kyle states something new every time he discusses his KKPK. It's a very mild purple Indica of some sort that I recently tossed from tha program. Do a very good, in-depth search as I have and you will find many stories regarding Kyle's gear and just that, alone, turns me off. It's gone. Buhhhh-bye. :wave: Wasn't even that dank Just being very honest here. I was crushed, but it's all in tha search for that ultimate Kush.

Olskool Emerald Triangle/NorCal PK is what ya' want. It's tha gear that's sold up and down beautiful California and anyone whos toked it, knows it right off tha bat. Truly badass smoke.

Up until Kyle left High Times he had never cloned a single plant(I have it in writing)
I'm sure he is now that he is back to growing out west where you have to get the cuts.....
He always grew from seed...Purple Kush X Hash Pipe was one of the main ones he grew....
I have several articles on his grows,organic soil methods and an article on a grow seminar in Holland and this is where he mentioned he had never cloned a single plant in his life...

Just an FYI...

Very True, CC. Kyle apparantly never did take clones back then, always grew from seed. KKPK, tha clone, never existed [who knows], but a seedline DID, until he stopped due to hermaphrodites becomming common in tha progency of his PK hybrids. Who knows what happened to tha Seedline. I know Grape Ape is actually a phenotype from a PK project of his, which is currently @ many compassion clubs, etc. This is all I know regarding Grape Ape. But even this could possibly be false. Everything surrounding that cat is a big mystery. I tossed KKPK outta' tha program due to too many stories and tha mediocre smoke it produces.

A percentage of the plants would have bright pink hairs, and the smoke was very strong. But it was also a bit harsh. I began selective breeding by choosing the best males and females for pollination. I was continuously making several crosses because you cannot tell if you have enhanced the finished product until you actually start smoking it. Cannabis tends to pass on their bad characteristics just as often as their worst. Breeding fine cannabis takes time, patience, and a little luck. About three or four years into the project I was ready to introduce some new genes into my now superb Purple Kush. This was around 1992, and a friend of mine received a package at his home from the Seed Bank. (Shortly after this wonderful event, the owner of the seed bank had to go into hiding because the DEA wanted to extradite him to the US on federal charges for mailing seeds.) Well, I took full advantage of these wonderful new hybrid genes from Amsterdam. They were one of the most potent and high yielding varieties around, and is still a popular breed: Northern Lights #5 X Hash Plant. When I used male pollen from this hybrid to fertilize my beauties I couldn't have been happier. On the first try the color became darker... I started seeing shades of magenta. And the flavor just came bursting out like a fresh chunk of grape Bubble Yum! The shit was so strong it would make some people nauseous! It took a couple more years of selective inbreeding to bring out the vibrant shades of dark purple. This did take its toll on the strain turning it seriously hermaphroditic. If you look at that poster very closely you can see at least three examples of hermy flowers. Someday when this madness ends I will pull out the magic KUSH beans and begin anew!

I've seen no difference 'tween Grape Ape & The Purple (Urple/Urkle) in three side by side grows thus far. Maybe I got tha wrong Grape Ape...but...then again it looks like every pic o' Grape Ape I've ever seen. :chin:

I've also read here and there he was responsible for it, but who cares anyway. It's just like Urkle, but slightly tastier. That typical, grapey, purple kool aid shit gets old.

I don't know too much about pk but i was getting it(I think from mendo at least since 1995-96. Denser than anything i have ever seen. Both green and purple nugs. I was never told the name when picking it up i just knew it was some fire. I always wondered if what i was getting was pk or mendo purps? Here is something that looked similar to what i use to pick up. Peace....Nor

Looks like some outstanding purple to me, my friend. Just FYI - Mendo Purps is a much leafier, less-dense, Sativa-dominant strain with a much milder, eurofic buzz. Very good, tasty day-smoke, whereas PK is knock-out sillyness. Both strains will yield, both, purple and green batches. Very easy to tell tha two apart if you've smoked 'em enough. Hell, just by eye you can tell.

Looks like some Purple Kush norcalcrypt... Always has those purple frost-covered dense,rock hard little nuggets. Except when it's a green batch, in which case its always those green frost covered rock hard little nuggets... lol sorry man.. Blasted off the Purple as we speak...

I'd also like to know which cut floating around is the actual Cali favorite... Maybe a couple of them are simply mislabeled or something... I doubt all 5 of them can be the real thing though.

My only experience with kushes are Bubba Kush and Master Kush and I'm a bit curious on how the experience of these Purple Kushes relate.

From what I gather, the KKPK is bunk but the others are good to great?

Nspecta, what can you tell us about that Pakistani Purple Kush?

1969~ Pakistani Purple Kush is just anutha 'name' Humboldt Purple Urple/Urkle circulates under...Humboldt Purple also goes around under tha monikers Grape Purple Kush & also plain old "Purple Kush" as well...among others.

On that note..."Purple Kush" is merely a generic term/name fer dozens of different cuts/seeds/hybrids/polyhybrids/etc.

As fer which PK's are poor-good-great...that all depends on tha level of 'Hype' each particular cut recieves...IMHO. :chin:

This is the cut of PK I fuck with. Regarding it's origins I have no idea. Very similar look to the Paki PK except my leaves never turn that dark...
