Heres the pics of a tutorial i've saved from OverGrow a while back (long b4 it got shutdown). I forgot the OG user who made this, so please tell me if anyone knows. [EDIT- The dudes name is "DurbanLegend"; thanks to blinx for reminding us] This was one of the best DIY reflector tutorials on OG, so here it is (i had to write up the descriptions myself):

First cut out some sheet metal according to this diagram (Dont forget to cut out some tabs for rivets or screws to hold it together (you can also hold it together with alumminum tape, but its not as permanent). Also, dont forget to cut out a long rectangular strip on one of the edges, which is needed to mount the socket):

Next, bend the cut out into an octagonal shape (hold it together with rivets, screws or alumminum tape):

Then, bend the metal strip inward and mount the light socket:

Now wire up the socket, screw in the bulb and fire it up!

If you want you can paint it white for better reflection:

Dont forget that you'll need "tin snips" (also known as "aviation snips") to cut through sheet metal:

Thanks for the comments! I wish i knew who the original creater was, so i can give him some credit....

just wondering, to make this air cooled could u just put a 4 inch vent adapter in the top center to pull air over the bulb? would this work as well as a cool tube? just curious

Sorry for the late response.

It should cool air pretty damn well, but not as good as a cooltube since radiating heat is being deflected by the glass.

nice reflector Pontiac, im fishin for ideas now and this looks like what i may need! thanks

This is a cool design. I'm working on building mine right now  When it's finished I'll post pictures.

Thanks to Pontiac for helping me find the right measurments to fit my box limitations.

I'll be putting a 150w HPS in a smaller version of this design. My piece of sheet metal will be 21 in. X 21 in. So I'll end up have an octagonal reflector just below a diameter of 17 in. Once again thanks to Pontiac for helping me figure it out!

I used a pair of snips to cut the sheet metal. Just took my time and made sure it wasn't warping the metal. I know you can you use a jig-saw with a metal cutting blade also. However, I felt like it would have been harder to control my cuts using the jig-saw so I decided on the snips.

I'm almost done making the reflector as I type this. Just needed to take a smoke break :joint:

I'll post some pics soon.

 Well I finally finished my octagonal reflector. After planning where to put things, gathering all the parts I needed, and spending the money that was burning a whole in my pocket, I have a new grow light.

Once more, a big thanks to Pontiac for helping me figure out how big exactly my light fixture need to be. Hopefully more and more information like this will continue to appear from the left overs of OG

Anyways here are the pics, enjoy! :joint:
