Actually I found a rather offensive smelling polyhybrid that has og kush, snow cap, gtr#7 snow white and cookie monster inside it. A clusterfug, but consistently assaulted the nose. Have you looked into any of these to find what you are looking for? You can always send me a PM for more information or genetic materials. I dont like growing that stuff, stinks. Grew it for a close friend that wanted that creamy taste. The stuff that smells just like skunk spray has been gone since around 2000 at the latest. I'm not talking burnt rubber weed, dumpster weed, dirty diaper weed. Straight up skunk spray weed. Was all over the place from mid 80s til mid 90s here in Michigan. Short term stocky plants done by end of Sept. Florescent green buds. No purple at all. Pure lime green plants. The stuff has been accidentally bred out by careless breeding practices. Between myself and a handful of my close friends have traveled across the country hitting dispensaries in every legal state. Tried seeds that are "real" skunk and nobody has seen the stuff since the 90s. It's long gone. I gave up wasting time and money trying to find it. Rather I'm focusing on other old school strains like Trainwreck that are still fairly original and looking for skunky phenos within them.
Last we saw it was like 1995. What I was talking about above the polyhybrid was the closest to it I've seen in decades. Not something I pursue myself. I had 2 wrapped in trash bags with one tip of a side branch sticking out to pollinate, and the smell was all in the room, I had to apologize to the wife when she came home assuring her that in the evening they go back in the tent with the charcoal filter. Ugly smell.I just wanted to add that I grew out some Shoreline bx. From shoreline genetics supposedly Texas shoreline x. Deadhead og. The shit was garbage. Nothing even close to skunk spray. I mean WTF people. I thing a lot of these new breeders don't have a clue to what the real skunk spray dope was. They were too young to smoke and experience it before it vanished. If you are out the Mr. Shoreline Genetics.....you've wasted a half a year of my time and I'm fricking pissed! Your shit is garbage and not even remotely skunk weed. Hell Devils Harvest Shoreline was much closer. At least a couple phenos had a tinge of skunk spray to them. Still washed out garbage but not nearly as bad as Shoreline bx. Steer clear people.
The stuff sounds interesting. The closest stuff I've found to 80s-90s skunk is the twent20 Mendocino Arcata x t-dub trainwreck and their Super Wreck. There are a couple cat pissy phenos im digging actually. Still nowhere near 80s skunk but it's in the same vein and closer than anything in the past 20 yrs. Their Trainwreck terps really brings back highschool memories getting high behind the tennis courts lol. Old-school terps for sure. Those guys have solid genetics. I've gotten keepers out of every 6 pack.Last we saw it was like 1995. What I was talking about above the polyhybrid was the closest to it I've seen in decades. Not something I pursue myself. The skunky weed we had was not anything like ammonia as I would describe it. It was way more warmer than that. I think this hybrid would be of interest to you, especially since nearest parent won a recent cannabis cup. Its started getting frosty in week 3 of flowering. Tiny starts of buds and already getting dewy. If I dont have enough seeds this year, unfortunately it may be a while before I get back around to it.The stuff sounds interesting. Good luckIm not looking for that. Thanks for the concern though. Straight up clean skunk spray is all I'm after. Pungent lime minty lemon floral taste. Instant red eyes. Giggle weed crazy head with body buzz. It was an old Afghani. I know everyone says the original skunk was sativa. Not the stuff in Michigan. I'm trying to reverse engineer it myself with a Trainwreck pheno. Just need some authentic skunk spray male pollin to complete
I'm in Michigan as well. The last year I saw Skunk weed was 1995-96, after that it was like "poof"... gone. I have found a few things recently that carry heavy skunk in there, but it isn't pure skunk like the old skunk weed was. One line in particular is real promising, but we'll see. It's weird, most buds I smoke from it are near pure pine, with a little skunky back end. But once in a while, a particular bud (all off the same plant) will be pure, mouth coating, linger in the air skunk. Maybe I'll get lucky and pop the magic bean. It's definitely in the line. Just gotta find the right one.The stuff that smells just like skunk spray has been gone since around 2000 at the latest. I'm not talking burnt rubber weed, dumpster weed, dirty diaper weed. You keep saying it's disgusting, but you haven't had it, by the same admission in post. Yes, I'm sure it was a regional thing. The guy I responded to, while he did use the words "skunk spray", and I agree with that, there are degrees... I liken it to what you smell when you drive by a recently hit skunk on the side of the road. That whiff that you get. Not rotting flessh, not decay, just that pungently skunky smell in the air for a few seconds. That's what the Skunk Weed we had smelled, and tasted like. Skunk was never a single clone, we're talking about a time where that was not a common thing. Seeds were how almost everyone grew their herb. Most of those came from whatever imports were in your area at the time, save those who were aware of the couple of seed banks operating in the 80's.That must have been a regional thing or something. I've never had any weed that smelled or tasted as you have described. The skunk weed from back in the 70's, was HEAVILY pungent blueberry -so much so, that you had to think about it being blueberry before would translate to being that smell (if that makes sense). In actuality, it wasn't really blueberry, either. It had the stinking power of skunk spray, but actual skunk spray is disgusting. Skunk weed, on the other hand, was delicious smelling and was irresistible. It was like catnip for humans. But, yes, it did "stink" and that stink instantly identified you as a pot smoker....or a pot grower...in which case, you were risking going to prison because of that smell.
Ironically, pot smokers started wearing patchouli oil because it was the only thing that could counter the skunk weed smell.....I say, "ironically" because anyone who smelled like patchouli oil was also identified as a pot smoker!
In the end, most all of the weed that would have been called "skunk" has disappeared. I also believe the "original" skunk was from landrace sativa lineage. But, there were also indicas that were skunky, too, I'm sure. All good weed back in the 70's was skunk weed. We got ours from Mexico and that was the land of sativa, not indica.
Now, you just get endless combinations of every genetic variety under the Sun, good or bad, pungent or completely odorless. In fact, just today, I opened a sealed Grove bag of the strain called "Fireballs" that I grew in 2023-24. It's absolutely covered with trichomes, has almost zero odor and it tastes like pure THC distillate. It went into the Grove bag smelling that same way, too. Is it good? Well, yeah, in a way it is...but it wouldn't have been categorized as skunk weed, back in the day (or today, either). We'd probably just have called it "sinsemilla" -again, because terms in those days were very general. It would have been an old school grower's wet dream -extremely potent, with none of the smell/flavor!
If you like lime terps, then a great variety to grow is called "Slymer" It smells like fresh lime and lime Kool-Aid. I believe it came as a selected variant to another variety called "Chernobyl" by TGA Subcool, which was also very lime-terpy.
The years I'm talking about are the early-mid 90's. It was absolutely called "Skunk Weed", or "Skunk Bud" in my area, at that time. There was also "Kush". And the Christmas Bud, in Nov/Dec each year. Everything else, in my circle, in my area, was either generic "homegrown", or an import. About once a year we'd get a nice brick of good quality Jamaican through my guy, but he said they only got that on rare occasions. The rest of the time it was Mexican. It wasn't even called skunk weed back then. The only stuff that had names was the imported stuff that rarely came around. Panama red. Colombian gold. Most common stuff was shit mexican brick or fresh homegrown. The fresh homegrown was always skunk or pine bud terps. We called it lizard weed. There was no diesel or Kush or blueberry back then. The first f1 round of the dutch true landrace crosses it what it was. The best dope the world will ever see. Late 80s to early 90s. With the f2s in early to mid 90s came along the og kushes and diesels then the rest was history
We always called skunk weed lizard weed or Afghani. I'm talking more late 80s but yes sounds like your area had a lot in common with my area. No og Kush with fuel tastes or sour diesels until mid 90s in my circle. I've never smoked blueberry til late 90s. Once the Kush and diesels hit the scene the skunk was gone.
