Sealed Seed Packs (Am I Paranoid?)

Some people collect baseball cards.. I collect genetics. There are 2 or 3 US-based vendors that I habitually purchase from and have not encountered any issues. My orders are accurate, the breeder packaging intact, and shipped promptly.

Without naming names I recently placed an order to a Colorado vendor for Colorado based breeder genetics: 3 cultivars. I received the cultivars and 2 featured an easily removeable sticker on the box and the other had a foil seal on the box which was broken.

I sent a pic of the box with the broken seal to the vendor and have not received a reply. I emailed the breeder to notify them of the issue suggesting that properly sealed packaging may give their customers added peace of mind.

The breeder replied saying that they only work with reputable vendors and that they ENSURE the genetics in the box is legit. A quick follow up email added that the foil seal packaging has been discontinued in favor for a sticker because the foil is known to "pop off".

I think it is a BOLD statement to ENSURE a product is legit 1) once it has left their custody and 2) arrives at the customer with a broken seal. The lack of response from the vendor and the snarky response from the breeder is quite telling.

These beans were in no means inexpensive. I have been burned by a Canadian vendor in the past and they will not get another dollar from me. These knuckleheads in Colorado will not get another dollar from me either.. and both are well known.

YMMV

I try my best to buy from the breeder direct but when I can't that pack better be sealed.

That is the wisest purchasing MO. Unfortunately, some breeders hand off their work to outside vendors. I wont name these businesses so to not give the appearance that I am bashing them for reasons unknown. Others may had positive experiences and I refuse to enter into a pissing contest. Perhaps "reputable businesses" to some but my experience proves anything but..

There are plenty of things that are excellent that might not be what they're claimed to be.

I think that was the issue, and for collectors, that'd probably matter.
