The World Music thread

Regarding the translation, I was asking you: I would be unable to differentiate the medieval from the contemporary; In Spain we have a popular joke (without malice; it is simply that we are incapable of handling so many consonants together) which is to say that in German "I love you, my love" sounds like in Spanish "I'm going to break your legs, you bastard", heh...
Returning to seriousness and medieval languages, it is curious to me about the German... In Spanish you can still almost completely understand the first written book that is preserved ("El Cantar de Mío Cid"), and even much of the poetry of the Romance languages prior to him, such as Mozarabic (an "more Arabized Castilian").
...

The medieval German is very different. Most of it I can't even understand when I read it. When I hear it, I catch some words here and there, but I miss the context. But still today there are many different idioms in Germany and when I go down south to Bavaria, I have big difficulties to understand my own people. Depends on how cooperative the other person is. When somebody just speaks his local idiom and emphazises it, conversation gets difficult.

And concerning the 'melody' of the German language... On any backpack trip a mexican told me grinning, that German sounds for him as hard as Russian. And yes, Russian sounds often 'hard' when I hear it and I can imagine, that German sounds similiar hard. For my ears all south european languages are beautiful. Especially Italy sounds like music for my ears. But Spanish sounds nice, too. And of cause French.

There is a modern and street style in Brazil called Funk, different from the traditional American style; Here, it is usually called Brazilian Funk, or Favela Funk ("Uphill funk," an old Brazilian friend of mine joked).

I love the first one (it has a slight Hispano-Arabic touch in the melody). It's not like the typical gangster rap video or misogynistic reggaeton, (in case the images violence of the girl dancing bother you; most of the young girls go like this here too as soon as the weather is good; it doesn't mean that they are "asking for war"); but just the opposite thing... It ends with the word "PEACE":

Let's see those Elephant Man, Bounty Killers, and others...this one can give you private flow classes in heels...(inspired by a song and video clip from the Spanish "La Mala Rodríguez"):

Makossa from Equatorial Guinea, in Bubi, Spanish, and I think also in Kombe:

(Nota a los Ecuatoguineanos: el primer tema se lo pongo a los neófitos en esta música sólo como ejemplo del estilo; por mi le pueden dar mucho por culo y con higos chumbos, al Teodoro, al Teodorín, y al resto de la manada...; Y corregidme con los idiomas si me equivoco, por favor...):

Esta me gusta más...¿Es kombe ngumbi, no?:

Spanish and Bubi:

.
Makossa mixtured with rap (Spanish and...Fang?):
(El español lo tengo claro, je...¿con fang? Ah, y felicidades por el 50 aniversario, con 5 años de eco...):

"I come alone with my punishment,
There comes only my conviction,
Running is my fate,
In order to deceive the law.
Lost in the heart
Of the great Babylon;
They call me the Clandestine
Because I don't carry any papers...

...To a northern city
I went for work;
I left my life behind
Between Ceuta and Gibraltar.
I'm a just a streak in the sea...
A ghost in the city...
My life is prohibited
Says the authority..."

From northeast to northwest, views from the roof of my new home in the coast, and the music that is heard from the neighboors in them right now; This style is called Tangos Flamencos, or Spanish Tango, different from the much better known Argentine-Uruguayan Tango.
Flamenco Tango or Spanish Tango, are considered a substyle of Flamenco that has been influenced by Afro-Peruvian and Afro-Ecuadorian folklore.

"No paso por domi
Destroza mi coraza'o
Y amor mío, si me quieres
Quítame el beso de ama'u
… Ya-ya-ya no paso por domi
Destroza mi coraza'o
Amor mío si me quieres
Quítame el beso de ama'u
Labios...
… Ay, tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai, ay
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai, ay
… Vengo de tierras lejanas
Donde habitaban los sueños
Como cinelo gitana
Ay, me hago una trenza en el pelo
Ay, yo me visto de lunares
Y cuando salgo yo a bailar
Llevo cositas de mi padre
… Ay, tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai, ay
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai, ay
… Será su pelo
Será su boca
Será su forma de mirarme
Y es porque te llevo dentro
Ay-ay-ay, no puedo aguantarme
… Ay, tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai, ay
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí, turu-turai
Tus labios pa' mí..."

Contemporary tribute to the original author, with influences from Jamaican Dancehall (here popularly said as "Dansjoll", heh); a style that was more popular here decades ago , when I was young, than today: after evolving in Hispanic America and Spain in Reggetón (by combining influences from Son Montuno, Salsa, Rumba and Cúmbia), has been relegated to a minority of the urban-alternative world of the lower and middle classes, along with Reggae and Rap, while Reggetón is the music most danced and listened to by youth of all social classes in general.

Spanish Rumba by the Palma de Mallorca's singer Concha Balboa Buika:
"There will not be anyone in the world":
Since the water is free
it lives free among springs
jasmines have cried,
and I don't understand how
in your eyes there's only desert.

It was a beautiful afternoon , when among the olive trees...
no one, no one saw how I loved you..., how I love you.
Today the olive trees sleep and I don't sleep...

There'll be no other in the world who cures
the wound left by your pride,
I don't understand how you hurt me
with all, all the love you gave me (x2)

Upon your return, I thought about singing you some old
poetic verses...
...those that speak of love and suffering;
better when you come back my love,
I'll consume you with kisses...;
and we'll fly high ...where the clouds slowly go...:
slowly my lips move about your body, so slowly...slowly... that I'm sure time will stops.

There'll be no other in the world who cures
the wound left by your pride,
I don't understand how you hurt me
with all, all the love you gave me (x2)

"Fucked up, but happy" ;Live:
Because you hurt me a lot
Because you tell me a thousand lies
And because you know that I'm looking at you
You don't look me in the eye.

And because you never, never want anything
That obliges you
I'm going to turn my back on you
So that you reach your goal well.

I'm leaving because my world is calling me
I'm going to leave quickly
Because even if you don't love me anymore
Life loves1me.

I'm leaving here like this
Fucked up but happy.
You've bent me
But I endure it.
Hurt but awake
For my future
With fear but with strength
I don't blame you or curse you
My darling

Fucked up but happy
I carry a hope inside
Hurt but awake
For my future
With fear but with strength
Because from now until I die
My world is mine
My world is mine
My world is mine.

And with torment and without pain
I'm making my way
And may the sea breeze
Guide me to my destination.

That way I'm going down
To the edge of the port
And may the first ship that passes
Take me to the high seas, out

On this planet of mine
This one that you ruled
I've already planted my flag.
You don't plant2nothing on me anymore.

Let me live like this
Fucked up but happy.
You've bent me
But I endure it
Hurt but awake
For my future
With fear but with strength
I don't blame you or curse you
My darling

Fucked up but happy
I carry a hope inside
Hurt but awake
For my future
With fear but with strength
Because from now until I die
My world is mine
My world is mine
My world is mine.

And everything I eat is mine.
And everything I dream is mine.
And everything I say and think is mine.
Everything I decide is mine.
Mine, mine, mine, mine.

And everything I speak, mine.
Everything I own is mine.
And everything I scream is mine.
All that I keep silent about is mine.
And what I don't keep silent about, mine.
Mine, mine, mine, mine.
It's mine.

Silly, everything in life must be paid.
Silly, everything in life must be paid.
Silly, everything in life must be paid.
Everything, everything, everything, everything.

Silly, everything in life must be paid.
Guilty or not.
Innocent or not.

Everything.

Silly, everything in life must be paid.

...a bit of Son Montuno (passed through the contemporary filter of ragga and rap) from the most southwestern end of Spain, already in Africa:
