Hey,
When starting grow I get curious when comes to the macro photography. I started with the macro lens for the phone. I can recomend cheap macro one (single lens from 3in1 kit) or 60x one for really close ups

Now decided to go with m43 format. I went with 16mpx Olympus r-pl6 with 14-42mm lens and macro tubes. It costed me less than 200e for whole setup, great value for money in my opinion : )

Still do have a lot to learn when comes to to the close and macros, but thats the idea behind the topic. To share the knowledge and DIY spirit I'm starting my current photo journey topic here.

Slowly feeling that I know most of the manual settings here. Its good that you can set the ISO or white balance using button shrotcut.

Terps Army Tea Time. Playing with 10mm extension tube. Single photo, no stacking.
Definitely still should be able to get sharper, shooting with hand even stabilized is no option in 2-3s exposure. Zoom in the viewfinder is really helpful here. Lens is sharp on the camera, but again my hand is not so steady.

Pinky Sour, still no stacking.
No playing with edits as well yet, still procrastinating to launch Darkroom and learn the basics.

Some balcony basil as a bonus.

More basil. These 2 will be the strongest of each kind. I managed to catch a moment of "golden hour".

my cat friend! im digging on these pics and it sounds like you have stepped up your game with some new gear
extension tubes are a good place to start

so lets talk about lighting
it looks like you are working with natural lighting
it works, but lets see if we can make it better
i would like to see more light coming from the front (or 3/4 front) just to make your shots pop a but more
take a piece of white paper or even a t shirt and hold it in the front of your camera or even better set up a panel to bounce the light back as fill
even better flip your angle and use the white card to bounce light from the back

i am pretty fluent in adobe, so if you have any questions once you open the program i might be able to help

Hey @pop_rocks !
Yes, I managed to find the gear to learn some basics, happy about that.
Thanks for the tips! I was playing with the DIY light diffuser for the stock flash I have. But I agree, I should think about the background in the macro photos.

I will launch Darkroom eventually, but if I will decide to go with the Adobe I will let you know : )

right on buddy! photography can be fun
/is it like a hot shoe flash or mounted on the camera?

im sorry i misunderstood earlier! when you said darkroom i thought of abode light room
my bad

There is only single position of the flash, but you can set the parameters in the camera.
The mount is standard, so if needed I can get bigger lamp.

The idea was for something relatively cheap and light that would allow to play with serious lenses. This 16mpx with 100-800 ISO is enough for me right now.

what i was thinking of was getting the flash off axis, like not directly aligned with the lens but from an angle
if you are diy a diffuser try and bounce the flash bahind you, off like the wall or even better, at the angle where the ceiling and the wall intersect
its just adding a fill light from camera but it opens up pic with more lighting from the front
