25 seeds sown. I'm hoping to get 6 to 8 plants to actually germinate and be viable based on my previous experience with the Kurgan strain.

I intended to sow them in 3.6L pots but 25 is quite a lot for me and I don't have as much pots of that size so I eventually used all kinds of pots I had at my disposal, in some cases some seeds have to share pots of bigger sizes. Eventually the distribution is as follows:

  • 12 seeds in 3.6L pots
  • 8 seeds in 6L pots in each case 2 seeds per pot (if they germinate there will be competition)
  • 2 seeds in 2L pots
  • 3 seeds in 1.3L pots
My intention is not to get them too big but I understand that with such small pots, some will be dwarfish. This is an exploration really. Anything not done by early July will be cut because i don't want it to interfere with my photo grow (coming later).

great "grow plan" wanting to run so- so many strains Thinking of just using 2gallon pots so I can run many different strains THEN pick to ones I want to give them 5 gallon pots run - many be even put them in flower at 3-4 inches tall , cutting veg time , this will surly affect yields BUT will have an idea of what to run further. Thoughts ?? using a 3by3 space maybe 6 - 3 gallons or 8 - 2 gallons ?

I mentioned in post #36 a few things about them. Like I said, extremely small wispy buds. Grows like crazy.
I didn't take any pics at the end, but here are a couple to give you an idea. These were in small pots, but they would fill any space quickly if given room.

Wow they seem huge !
  • How tall were those ?
  • how about those pots, how big ? They seem to be 6L right ?
  • How was your germination rate ?

I think they were about 3 ft/ 1m in those pics; the pots are only 3/4 gal/ 3 L.
I had to crack the seed shell with tweezers, but after that, germination was good. The seeds were really small—some of the smallest I've seen.
I wasn't planning on the plants getting so big. I was just going to do a repo and a hybrid with some small plants. But they had other ideas. I think 6ft /2M is possible in a big pot or outdoors. They don't need or like much for nutrients.

Good morning. How long did it take from start to finish?

I have a very bad feeling about this grow. Here we are, April 20th, temperatures is only a chilly 11°C, only two seeds have sprouted and the cold temperatures seem to have stunted their growth. I think it also doesn't help that the two seedlings are in small pots. I'm going to get them inside to give them some warmth and see how they react.

One mistake I may have made was not to treat the Siberian seeds with cold stratification while I had done so with the Kurgan and still only got three seeds out of 12 to sprout. Maybe trying to crack the seeds.

+3 seedlings
but actually -1 because one has been devoured by the scourge of the cannabis grower, ie bloody slugs !
So it's just a +2.

As a sidenote I understand why people say that you need big pots with autos and also possibly shove in some coco coir too. And crappy weather doesn't help either. Better do any of that when the warm weather has really kicked in and temperature has been a steady +20°C for at least ten days. Gosh these seeds are wild !

PS:
Gathering pollen would totally make sense.

PPS:
Don't be in a hurry !

Another seedling sprouted... and got munched by a slug. You can totally see the dried trail of slime of their crime . I'm starting to wonder if more didn't actually pop without me realizing it and got devoured by that slimy scourge. In any case, slugs do seem to love them.

Other than that, although it is still miniscule, one is starting to develop male flowers. I'll post some pics in the next days. Eventually I'd be more happy to have only males in order to collect some pollen and dust females from other strains. That's the ultimate goal after all.

Some updates. Been a bit lazy and neglectful I must confess... Let's try not to repeat that.

At the mo I have six females going on and not one single male  - talk about disappointment ! I had a fully identified male at one point, he was one of the first ones to pop but he died primarily because of my clumsiness (as an antislug measure gone bad). If I count all the ones that died because of slugs plus the one male that died plus the six females presently in bloom, overall this totals to 9/25 individuals ie a 36% germ rate, practically 1 out of 3.

Also the weather was not that great before june. Since june it has improved and we're presently in the throes of the burning heart of summer. There had also been several days of rain two weeks ago but with mild temps. The Siberian seems to take rain without problem which makes sense when you see the very fluffy structure of the bud. Some resin is also visible.

So here's a family picture of the Siberian bunch - only one is missing here:

From left to right, I'll call them :
  • Lanky left - far left
  • Chunky left - left
  • tiny one - center
  • pink right - right
  • tied right - far right
First the tiny one in the middle - she is the old timer, she was the first or second one to pop hence the very small size. This is caused by a combination of root restriction because of the small pot (2L), maybe too compact a soil (it's regular soil but I didn't add any coco as is often recommended for autos) as well as being sown too early when the weather was still not that great. For next year, I dont' think I will plant any autos before June 1st, once warmth and sunshine have really settled. But her most blatant feature about her is her single-bladed leaves. She's a lovely looking mutant. Her smell is the loveliest thing: a sort of peach and flower combo. Really love it. I'm particularly intrigued by the fact that something as northern as that strain could have flowery terpenes as I tend to associate that aroma with tropical plants. She looks very sativa to me.

Then lanky left - this one started to flower not so long ago as you can see. A week ago I was hoping for her to turn out to be a male but no. Anyway not much resin for now and a super flexible stem as you can see below (U turn) which is a good thing because her impresive stretch (yes it is) needs to be handled with LST. Her smell is hashy but she does have pencil thin upper leaves, very sativa like.

The "chunky" left - this one is quite similar to her lanky sister only she sprouted earlier than her hence the "chunkier aspect. For the rest sh's very much alike build wise and smell wise. This is her below.

Then the "tied" one in the same pot as the pink one. What to say about her ? Great flowery terpenes. Her stigmas appear sort of white on the pictures but if you look at them in reality they have a very light sort of washed out pink hue.

On the picture below, she's on the right (tied to the green stick) - the one on the left is the pink one that I describe below.

Then the "pink" one. I call her "pink one" because of her pretty fuschia stigmas which do stand out especially under the sunshine. Same flowery aroma as her older "tied" sister. One remarkable thing about her is that she's one of those "funny fellow" trifoliate plant ie she has three leaves per node rather than two. I'm not sure it shows very well on the pics ?

And finally the sixth one that didn't appear on the first family pic.

Aroma is lightly hashy.

I've also just sown some Lebanese seeds in order to compensate for the absence of males. I hope to be able to have some Leb pollen fertilize the Siberian girls by early september if they're still alive and capable of bearing seeds. For instance the small one has been going since the beginning and her flowers do look as if they're slowly decaying now. I gave a bit of fertilizer hoping to get her to keep going but I'm not sure that will be enough. I mean they have to die at some point since they're annual plants. To be continued...

PS:
I had to remove some pics because apparently there's a 20 picture max limit for each message but you can check out more pics in my album "Siberian 2024". I take it it's visible for everyone.
