The theory as to why they were never handed out... The cotton industry would have never survived. I believe it was the bankers that were in control of the hemp stamps. Hemp is pretty easy to grow, doesn't need pesticides or fertilizer. It was in the banks best interest to not hand them out. Thus the cotton farmers would continue to borrow money for their crops.

Companies that back Government officials end up with all the power cause they hold all the cards. Just think of how things would have changed had they not messed with the hemp farmers....... Hemp has over 25,000 uses... the possibilities are endless. It's sad...that car would have changed the industry.

I am sometimes of the opinion that it's better to be ignorant of some things, for example at what age to discuss with children the impending planetary destruction.

First, to convince them of the fact despite the misinformation being spread by the money, the corporate voices and their shareholders; and then to somehow inspire them to live a full and happy life with this knowledge (and I'm sure having a hard time doing it), and to keep them from suicide if they feel as passionate about the earth as I do.

Are they better off not knowing? Would I be?

The more I seem to uncover about the nature of things in our world the more I find myself wondering if I wouldn't be better off not knowing that hemp as an industrial crop was killed off for reasons we can hypothesize over, and that if we had not traveled that path we would not be facing what we are.

And our children and their children get to deal with

I prefer to know. For that reason i think this film is a great statement.

I downloaded the flv file from the streaming tv, it's only 370mb, compared to the much better quality dvd rip available on torrent share.

I thought "The Union" was a poorly made documentary.

How many minutes did they waste interviewing idiots on the street?

How many of the narrators points had to be filled in with mind-numbingly bad stock video and music? I seriously almost turned it off in the beginning because of that.

They also let the people they interviewed mix facts with their opinions, and made no attempt to differentiate between the two. They basically let everyone they interviewed discuss something simple, then let them go off on wild tangents and left the viewer to sift out what was fact.

Worst of all was their breakdown that illustrates how Cannabis is exchanged for Cocaine. That is classic prohibitionist bullshit!!! Who says that??? The RCMP and the DEA does, and it is a scare tactic that is not based in reality and cannot be substantiated with facts! I was saddened and shocked to see them try to sketch that out - its like they got that part right from some DEA sleazebag's powerpoint presentation.

It would appear the RCMP came up with the idea in 2000 or so, has never offered any evidence, and the DEA has picked it up and ran with it as well.

There's been multiple versions of the story too.. Years ago, it was "Cocaine is traded pound for pound for high grade marijuana" and since then the estimate has gotten smaller and smaller as it has become more and more clear that there is no evidence to back up the claim.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I mean people exchange things of value for other things, but "The Union" is pushing the story from the RCMP and DEA that the Cannabis trade is propping up the Cocaine trade, and that is simply false.

They spend half the "documentary" explaining how Cannabis prohibition is rooted in lies and misinformation from the authorities, then proceed to pretty much quote those same people word for word on their garbage and expect the viewer to take it as fact, which is even more disturbing.

Anyways, there were things I liked about the movie, especially the parts that dealt with medical use. How amazing to see a person unable to speak holding an intelligible conversation moments after using a little cannabis.

I recommend everyone check out Drew Carry's video about Medical Marijuana on Reason TV, http://www.reason.tv/video/show/57.html, as I think it does a much better job of sticking to facts and is far more concise, even though the subjects are not identical.

I also thought "American Drug War: The Last White Hope" was a MUCH MUCH better documentary about prohibition. You can buy it on Amazon here http://www.amazon.com/American-Drug-War-Last-White/dp/B0015XASZ8 or download it via torrent sites.

I watched this nice documentary and i noticed that ilegal marijuana bring bigger profit than legal herb. I realise how a state or a gouvernement can make double money from a illegal product. People that grow herb for comercial purpose don't want to hear bout legal herb neither cops. If u look closly u realise that illegal herb bring work to customs, cops, judge, lawyers, and of course dealers (to just name a few). In the same time, money that dealers make by selling herb get spend in all forms of products selling in our society and of course tax by the gouvernement: car, house, food, close, restaurant etc etc... Politician are a bunch of hipocrites that tell lies about marijuana ex: Herb kill brain cells. Fortunatly we have people fighting, showing the world that cigarette and alcool have killed many people since years (not to mention social drama that alcool creat ...)

Now we know that marijuana 've been used since thousand of years all over the world, France was number one hemp producer a hundred years ago... Now they bring use economical crisis just because they give the right to thief to build banks. Hemp and Marijuana will save the world if those idiot politician will just give it a chance but may be they dont want to see the world get saved...Just a thought.
