Alot of good choices there...so many choices but only one to pick....hmmm, I'll go where it all began for me....The Doors. Guess that gives my age away a bit hey

Ok, for the most part The beatles should not be on this list, because if it wasn't for them, most of the others would not exist.
Just like if not for Elvis the Beatles wouldn't of got turned on.
But look at the beatles, 3 of 4 of the band were famous on their own also and everyone knows all 4 of their names.
Grateful Dead were great, but mainly only Jerry.
Led Zepplin is the greatest rock band aside from the Beatles.
The Stones were just imitators, of the beatles. The drummer
is cool. Jagger is a big pussy.
Best Guitarist, no doubt is Jimi, His first few albums are
very creative. His isle of Wight playing is excellent.

...been around forever
still putting out good stuff (though it gets no airplay)
rich and smart (unlike most rock bands...no OD's, jail, death, bankruptcies)
..never hear about anything bad about them in the news
smart enough to invest the money...so they can do what they like when they like, and dont need to pimp themselfs out like so many other bands

the Doors/Jim was great
I carried around the book "no one here, gets out alive" with me in high school like a bible for a few months
...but they didn't last long before Jim burnt out and started to fade away (even before his death)
and Rays prolonged keyboarding can get old real fast
love the stuff like L.A. woman, riders of the storm, the end
really hate stuff like, hellow I love you, light my fire
so as the greatest "band"...they can't get my vote

Of course the dead are my first choice...
But the doors are a very close second...
Jim Morrison was an incredible poet, and the doors sure could jam...
