A little off topic, but badger related. Did you know that the male badger is the only mammal to have a "pecker bone"? The bone itself is approx. 2 1/2 - 3" long, hollow, and can be used as a whistle.

you dont need to join a club to watch nature!

and killing brocks/badgers because ppl want to drink milk and eat cheese ,, from intensively reared stocks,, is kindda backwards in thinking!!! no offense to the backwards thinking ppl..

but let's leave the badgers be,,,, they was here before we were !!!!!

I think we are missing a golden oppurtunity here, we could kill them for their tails, to give to the nation a sustainble source of cheap high class shaving brushes, Tis said that Badger steak is rather tasty, so it could provide a cheap sustainable food source, whilst giving them a blow job on penny whistles. It just gets better, good ole Brock, I knew they'd be good for something. :)

The majority of the holes in the sett are inactive. The overall size of the sett reflects centuries of inhabitants. The badgers are likely be to friendlier than the farmer is!

Nice post. The idea of the size representing centuries is pretty fascinating.

That's the point,, for the majority of farmers badger setts are an economically unviable nuisance. The land required to sustain the sett increases year upon year.. meaning the farmer looses out,, or incures extra costs.

As bastions of the countryside however farmers have a duty to maintain the natural landscape, the flora and fauna. Most local farmers are aware that DEFRA is NOT a reliable source of information... and as such they should be morally and culturally responsible for their own actions as far as the management of badger setts on their land is concerned.

If our hunting friends ever saw anyone abusing a bock/badger ,, they'd probably get a barrel ,, or their fences pulled down !! That is because badgers stopped being considered 'quarry' or of 'warren' way back during the middle-ages.. just like the hedgehogs,, which also carry TB!

Imagine what would happen if city folk decided they were going to start gassing hedgehogs... lmfao

Hope this helps
