Zamaldelica Query?

I was bumping around here looking at the various Zamaldelica threads, and ran into something strange.

Depending on what you bought or aquired there are TWO different Zamaldelicas as released by Ace seeds.

I have purchased 12 Ace Zamaldelica seeds through The Single Seed Centre, these are the Standard variety at a time when the feminized version wasn't yet available.

In looking at Aces' site I found this on the fem version:

100 % sativa F1 hybrid. Zamal x Malawi killer.

Zamal is an exotic african sativa from La Reunion Island, close to Madagascar, famous for its extreme vigor and legendary psychedelic effect.
An excellent Zamal mother selected for its trippy effect, fast flowering and remarkable sweet carrot and floral fragrances, was pollinated by the powerful Malawi 'killer' mum in order to create Zamaldelica, a new super sativa hybrid of terrific lysergic effect and amazing vigorous growth.

What got me going on this is in Mel Franks' book he talks about the tendencies of all the SE Asians being prone to hermaphodites, and I had remembered seeing that Zamal had some Thai in it, but checking the feminized strain saw no mention of Thai... WTF?

Checked the Standard seeds and found this:

100 % sativa poly hybrid. Zamal x Malawi/Thai

Zamal is an exotic african sativa from La Reunion Island, close to Madagascar, famous for its extreme vigor and legendary psychedelic effect.
An excellent Zamal mother selected for its trippy effect, fast flowering and remarkable sweet carrot and floral fragrances, was pollinated by the powerful Golden Tiger in order to create Zamaldelica, a new super sativa hybrid of terrific lysergic effect and amazing vigorous growth.

Mystery solved but what a weird situation to have called two very different strains the same thing...

What is the difference between the Golden Tiger and Malawi Killer?
And how does that effect the overall genetics of Zamaldelica?

Well Golden Tiger is the malawi x thai as stated, I think the Malawi Killer is a pure Malawi, aces personal selected mother plant.

Yep like Haze said, I suspect it may be the Thai in a fem cross caused problems but thats just a guess.
I did find a herm in the regs, but only one, the winners are there.

I've often read that the whole Thai-hermy problem is a myth. All cannabis has a tendency to herm, some more than others, but SE Asian strains don't have a bigger problem than, say, the South American tropical sativa's. In any case, Golden Tiger is pretty stable.

Yes, Ace made two different Zamaldelica's, but IMO close enough to give them the same name. I've grown the femmed, which was pretty damn good, but I think the regs are even better.

Thanks for the discussion on this guys!

Okay I think I get it now.

100 % sativa. Malawi x Meo Thai. Semi-stabilized hybrid .

Golden Tiger is one of the most powerful and interesting sativa hybrids we have developed lately.

It's a straight hybrid derived from the 'killer' Malawi mother and a selected Meo Thai male. Meo Thai is an exceptional highland Thai selected by Cannabiogen.

In this hybrid, we have combined the 2 most potent and resinous landrace sativas we have ever worked with. The result is a plant with a great vegetative strength, remarkable for its overpowering potency and its exceptional floral traits. The flower bunches flare over forming
dense buds with small leaves. The trichomes are big, plentiful and loaded with powerful cannabinoids.

100 % Malawi sativa, Central Africa.

After years of hard work and intense selections with sativas from all around the world, we can confirm that Malawi is the most powerful and psychedelic landrace sativa we know. Its dense flowers of enormous trichomes compete with the most powerful indica/sativa and indica hybrids on the market in reference to their size and cannabinoids
concentration.

The potency of their flowers is simply devastating, and it is especially
recommended for experienced smokers that seek extreme sativa effects without renounce to an abundant harvest.

Ace after years of sorting through strains found that "One in a Million Strain" that was the "Killer". And they bread "her" to various other strains that they thought worthy of the killer mum genetics.

Having read through Thaibliss' thread on the search for trip weed, I've been inclined to agree that perhaps a certain strain of Thai could be the key to obtaining it.

I popped 4 seeds of the 12 that were shipped and got two different looking plants. Two that went out in my greenhouse were females and of a kind, the other two that I sexed in a box under fluorescent lights went hermie and different looking plant:

Females looked like this

And males/hermies like this

#4 looks different that the rest, shorter and with a different tighter branching.

Perhaps some of the Thai breaking through?

I grew out three regular Zamaldelica this year, outdoor, and got 3 females. Two were auto flowering (Zamal), but finished in the normal timeframe of end of Oct-mid Nov, and my favorite one so far is what I believe to be a Thai leaner. Ive got plans to pop more of them this winter/spring. Great outdoor plants!! I've got a few flower shot in my album but I'll post most from my computer when time permits.

I'd love to try the Killer Malawi fems alongside the Zamaldelica fems to see how the Killer mum blends.

Thanks Soopy, I'd love to see some pics of your girls.

I'm going to move to some different sativa strains myself along with what I already have. I've some cross breeds with the smaller hermie (#4) and Lionheart. I'll also pop 4 of the 8 zamaldelica std. seeds this winter in a indoor, and save the others for a timed spring flowering.
