This is a "smoke report" that starts with, and is mainly about, the two crosses that make up this cross (Zamal and Neville's Haze), than an actual detailed smoke report about the cross.....
I grew out a few packs of GN Zamals and was very impressed with a few of the females. The Zamals were grown in the bush in a very old veggie patch that was overgrown, loosened up the hard clay soil, with a bit of fert pellets scattered around, planted 2 ~ 3 week old seedlings and being landrace sativas they soon took off and got to a decent size. The area was on a similar latitude/climate to la Reunion (where the seeds originally came from).
The buds had an earthy/carroty/veggie scent and the high was quite different from the other Asian tropical landraces I've grown. Though, only medium in potency, the high had many wonderful aspects. The high lasted for hours and it undulated, just when you thought it was faded and it was time for another jay, suddenly the high would be there again.
It's one of the few cannabis strains that should be banned by the Olympics, lol, especially for endurance/long distance events like cycling, walking etc, a Zamal inspired competitior would have a definte advantage. The energy was long lasting without a caffiene or paranoia edge to it and it gave me stamina like a locamotive while really zoning in with tunnel vision, I could smoke a big jay of Zamal and for the next 3 or 4 hours be tireless, efficient and switched-on at whatever I was doing.,,bush walking, cleaning the house or just reading or web surfing...
after a while I only smoked dry sifted Zamal resin.....which was harder hitting, cerebral, forehead sweating, marching powder madness.
the longer it was cured, the more it improved, and there were other aspects to the high too, it was very intelligent and trippy in a way that I often felt like (if I smoked enough of it) of watching myself from above which gave a new perspective of things..at the same time it took ages to put my shoes on! lol..if there was ever a strain that you could time travel with, a super strong example of Zamal would be a good starting point!
I crossed the best looking females with the males, making Z x Z, and made a cup full of seed which over the years has now dwindled down to just a 10 or so seeds.
The best Zamal females were crossed with a Neville's Haze male (I think it was High Quality Seeds strain, but can't be 100% sure, a friend bought the seeds over the counter in Am'dam). I was very impressed with this NH strain, the one's I grew outside were ideally suited to indoor growing being compact, with hard buds, big yielding and one femme had very strong potency but with lots more couch glue in the high than I expected.
I've grown out dozens of these Zam x NH crosses over the years and I'm smoking some fresh harvested of it now. It's good, but to be quite honest, the best of original NH or Zamals, from memory, were a slightly better smoke than the best of the Zam x NH crosses. The plants look slightly more like Zamal in growth, the finishing times vary slightly, all are long flowerers but the high is usually an even balance between the two strains.
I crossed those GN Zamals with lots of other strains at the time too..the best were the (C99xC99) x (ZxZ) crosses. The best of both worlds, some finish relatively quickly and the high is fun, the Zamal gives complexity and duration to the high while the Cindy adds resin, a fruity scent and lots of life and potency to the high..Cindy is a good strain to use in making crosses (especially long flowering strains)
anyway, the moral of the story is : make seeds everytime you grow seedlings, just dust a tiny amount of male pollen on a lower branch of a few promising looking femmes and you will have lots of seeds to give to friends and to grow and experiment with etc for years..and maybe one of those crosses will be a keeper!
smoking cannabis is good for many people....growing your own adds to the pleasure, but growing seeds you made yourself adds another dimension.....
Happy growing!
