Hello expat,

I havent grown Zacatecas Purple Mexican, i have heard great comments about this mexican sativa but never had the pleasure to grow or smoke her.

Kanza sent us some Zacatecas Purple seeds 3-4 years ago. They were sent to Bazeado, a good friend and great grower for reproduction. He has been looking this genetics for years and was very motivated to reproduce her. He planned an indoor grow, only a few germinated, only females were found if i remember clearly. Sadly he got ill at the end of the grow and couldnt finish it but flowering was very promising.

I have heard from mexican friends that Zacatecas grows close to Torreon and it's known as Torreon Violeta, it's suposedly on the finest mexican varieties, very hard to find too, even for mexicans in other states. You must have good local contacts in Torreon to find her.

Best wishes for the quest! dubi

I have searched for info on the Zacatecas Purple and can share the few little bits I found:

It is the sativa half of Big Sur Holyweed - a Buddhist monk called Perry is said to have crossed Zacatecas Purple to an Afghan/Kush type indica in 1964 somewhere near Big Sur, California.

The original ZP was grown in a high mountain valley in Mexico by indigenous Indians and was eradicated in the early 80s. A couple of years ago it was said the Indians were tryignto re-establish their cannabis crops using inferior bagseed as they could not find nor afford better genetics.

A guy called Danbo preserved ZP and still holds the strain apparently. Danbo is around on the net, but not here at icmag. It is claimed Danbo shared the strain with some people in the Uk and Spain, but that info came from the mouth of someone less than reliable. Without asking Danbo, I have no clue if he has ZP or has shared it.

There are definitely some excellent genes to be had in the Yucatan, avoid Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and the other tourist spots on the ocast, go to places like Valladolid and the small inland towns, riding the bus is a good way to find the little local mercados, it's pretty safe but be careful as you go farther south down towards Guatemala. Be polite, friendly and keep your wits about you and you can have a great time for not a lot of money. Little roadside stalls in the middle of nowhere or little roadside collections of stalls are good palces to try and score, no police to be truend into and the worst you will get is a 'no, senor' the best will be a colelction of bundles of newspaper containing local outdoor sativa. It's pretty much impossible to tell from the appearance how good it's gonna be in my experience, but generally, pick the stuff with the least stalks and isn't bone dry so that there is some green dust in the newspaper too if possible.

Cannabis grows everywhere in the Yucatan but the jungles are very dangerous, 50-odd types of venomous snakes, scorpions, big lizards, big cats, all kinds of nasty shit. But if you hrie a car and get off the beaten track inland you'll see it growing here and there, they have eradicated it from the coastal area and around tourist spots like Chichen Itza, but there are still loads of places where there are wild plants. I never saw any cultivated crops but I never looked. Saw plenty of roadside plants when I was driving round but it wasn't the right time of year for them to be flowering.

One of my favourite smokes is this lovely sativa I found from seeds I brought back from Yucatan in 2005, I call her El Yucateca.

my buddy that went to Belize, had told me to watch out for snakes, as there abundant and potent. had said the Fer De Lance(sp) was a pretty aggressive critter. come right after you. lol.

friend also suggested the small white buses to get around up and down the coast. should be a great trip, lots of sailin and seed huntin.

British Hempire- Take some of that Yukatan and cross it with your lovely fat purple Afghan and make your own Holy Weed :muahaha:

On a more serious note, what is so special about the Zacateas Purple buzz that makes it more desireable than any other Mex like Oaxacan, Guerran, etc???
