I don't believe we know what you mean. Do you mean living off the "grad", or the Hippie thing, tune in turn on drop out?

Living away from city convenience's, out in the boonies/mountains/hills/jungles (if that's what you mean)....buy 2 of everything. It's a bitch when one breaks down or you have a long haul to replace it. Or you make do 'without'....

More and more the govt is trying to keep people "plugged in". Lady in Florida was living in home without utilities. She was being sanitary with solutions for water , sewer , etc. State said she was violating county laws and told her they would condemn her home if she didnt hook up to utilities. Your either all in now days or not at all.

Well, you have to cover everything yourself then, form food to medical care, just everything.
other than the problems that might arise from giving away all the amenities of modern life that we have grown so accustomed to it's a pretty rad idea !

I don't really participate in society to the same extent that an average person does so perhaps I don't feel the need to 'drop out' quite as much as some. I think there is a fine line to be drawn between being too attached to our culture/society and being completely unattached. Most people find themselves at one of those two extremes and forget that there is perfection to be found in moderation.

I mean like no more system, no more inssurance or gas, or electricty bills, or bank account. Is this possible? Rather if u will do it alone or in a community, I guess the organisation is different. But its more for a spirituale experience, I 'd like to drop the system for a few months a live the wild life...

But if I want to drop out the system I cant not depend on it, buying stuff in double will make bring the system with me, while I want to escapre the system..

Baked Alaskan

It's hard to totally drop out. It's much easier to partially drop out. I lived in Alaska for 20 years and still own a small house on a salmon river up there. I learned to use society for certain purposes, like grocery stores or health services. You will need a group of friends or neighbors to help each other.

If you want to give it a try, Alaska in the summer is a great place to start. There are lots of folks who live part way off the grid and are very willing to help. Try the fish industry for work and contacts. The Kenai Peninsula is a good place to look for work and a secluded place to live.

Good luck and pm me if you need more info.

If you want to drop out, no bills, no worries...
Take a trip to india, and I am sure you will find an experience like this deep in the himalayan mountains… Go to parvati, and get walking..

I wish they'd show it again it's been a while since I've seen it. I tried to find the full version on youtube but couldn't find it. It looks like they try to get you to buy the dvd set on the Dick P website.

Well, I guess try it and report back to us. Sure, living off the land is great, but it's difficult. By doing so, you appreciate the smallest of things....that's what is cool about self sufficiency.

Too, having harmony with others...like someone mentioned....crucial...you help them, they help you....you help one another.

I lived in a very rural area over 1.5 hrs to any city or small town conveniences. That wasn't totally "out there", but had numerous friends say they could not live that way....being far away from goods and services. Bought food in bulk, gardened to know what I ate. I guess I could have killed coyotes to eat for meat, but I'm not into those mangy characters.

Medical services were crucial the older I got.

I had water collection from roof. Unfortunately, my water storage was under ground. When my pump ceased working (thus my quip...buy 2 of everything), I had to go buy another one....or buy parts to it. It was a drag to buy a part, find out it wasn't quite the right fit....and hr. into a place for hardware, an hour back. Just made sense (for those in the area)....never throw away anything, always buy two.

Had firewood for heat, nearby river for water, fished for protein. I lived my dream....can't say I'd do it again. 15 yrs. was enough.
