you still have a sense of humor after missing your shot.]

I had draw a bead on a rabbit. Just about to pull the trigger. Then he stopped dead and hunkered down. I lost sight but held my aim. I still had good eyes back then. Rabbits have the best camo in dried leaves. Then I spotted his eye. Just as I zeroed in he closed his eye.Lost again. I twitched he jumped and ran.

We let that one go.

Thanks for giving my memory a tweek.

you look out onto the lake & find the Minnesota Bikini Ice Fishing team auguring a few holes.

(genius thought, bikinis with thermal undies built in :yoinks:)

btw, in '88, '89 &'90 I used a 7 inch hand auger like the bikini team are using, when I finally had the $$$ I bought me a nice 2 stroke 10" Jiffy ice auger. My 1st ice auger was a Swedish spoon that was gifted to me, it made a 6 inch hole & because it wasn't an actual auger you'd have to scoop all of the ice from the hole w/an ice scoop.

instead, the spiral style bit that the bikini team is using above actually augers up, or pulls up & out much of the cut ice, but you still need an ice scoop either way, a clear hole allows you to spot movement of your bobber; in a hole w/ice remnants floating, a bobber will stand still on light bites.......

when the ice gets to be 24+ inches thick you wouldn't say that, in '91 or '92 we had near zero snow & nightly temps around -15F. The ice in an area we call 'the meadows' was a bit over 4 feet thick, a power ice auger usually is usually 3 feet long from cutting teeth right on up to where the shaft meets the motor, my friend knew it was real thick & so he brought a 12" extension bar along.

It wasn't long enough though, so we loaded each hole we drilled with the ice chips that it's just augured out, & then we gently drop the auger back into the hole not running, just to push that shit on through, did that make sense???

my old science teacher Mr Fishman used to say, or yell, "Don't tell me! Show me!!!" So here's one picture that says it all:

1st, that auger bit should be black from the cutting blades on up to the top where it meets the motor; instead they know that the ice that's being cut is so thick so they added a one foot long white extension bar, right below that engine.

2nd, that ice/snow that's mounding around the auger is the stuff we needed to kick back into the hole (after removing the auger of course) so that pushing the auger back down would bust the last couple of inches of ice; oh shit!!! then each hole had to be scooped clean before fishing in it. It was always a team effort, unfortunately it was never the bikini team helping us.......

okay, was anyone even lookin' at that auger etc???

We take that ice fishing (aka hardwater) thing sorta serious up here, the biggest tournament is the Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza:

11,000 anglers eventually showed up to this gig.

here's a better POV as to what 11,000+ drilled holes look like.
