Yield or Quality?

Lots of grow stuff out there and i believe most of it is hype and totally of no use.. Keep it simple is my motto.. but hey what do i know?
I met a guy a couple of years back who decided to try his hand at growing.. a perfectionist. He got clones and a few months later came back to me with beautiful medicine.l.. it burned leaving a white ash that just disintegrated it was so clean. Burned smooth and tasty to the end. It was a great product for a first timer.. he continued to produce a quality product and i was impressed! Recently he came to me after a long break and told me he had done some reading as he felt he need to improve his yield. He told of a new "scientific" method of flushing with a sugar product to bulk it up etc.. and lost me after the first few blocks :dunno: He pulled out a jar of product that looked outstanding.. big and fat and sparkling! It looked so beautiful and he left a few sample that looked mouth watering! We rolled up a fattie with great anticipation.. First hit.. only a hit of flavor.. second hit still only a hint of flavor and the ash was hard and it wouldnt stay lit. The potency and flavor seemed diminished.. i would always take his excellent medicine in the past but this time i couldnt bring myself to call him. It was beautiful and big and fat but his quality just wasnt what it used to be.
Just wondering what everyone else feels is most important?

Always quality over quantity, im not sure about the growing side so much, but id rather spend £20 and get 1.5g of some extra special sweet tasting high grade, rather than spend £20 and get 3g of some okay grade

I would focus on the strains that yield better than others and grow those out in a quality way!!! This is my medicine first, so I would want the best possible taste, high, etc....

i hear more about the desire to boost the yield than anything else.. it seems to be the biggest bragging point.
i agree with the fact it needed to be flushed better. He said he flushed it with honey the last two weeks?? i could see the yield was great so i guess he accomplished his mission and i know one of the local clubs bought his product and he asks the top dollar but i feel that it really lacked its true original qualities.
Thanks for the input.

Quality wins every time for me , have yet to find a very high yielding plant with real flavour over many years of looking.

Had a chance at xmas to sample one of my cuts grown out in a hydro with about 20 mostly useless nutes and additives thrown in and a weeks flush , and compare side by side with the same cut grown in basic soil with no nutes apart from a dash of pK in mid flower.

Soil does 0.4 g/w and the hydro does 1.2 g/w in a week less flowertime so its one hell of a difference.

The big fat glistenning buds are lacking in colour , flavour and potency in comparison to the thin , near black and rock hard buds from basic soil and looked like they came from different species rather than the same clone.

Totally different smoke from the same drawf cut , if grown for yield its qualities are washed out and bland.

Starting with a natural high yielder and pushing it to the limits would probably be worse , no incentive for quality for most round here though as anything smokeable gets top price even harvest trimmings.

Like everyone else is saying quality should come before yield.....anyone can grow a bunch of dirt but skill and precision come into play when your talking about quality. I guess yeild would be important for commercial growers
