OK...After 2 years in my old cramped veg/clone box, I've decided to expand a bit ...I was planning on upgrading to newer lights and such but funds are tight and I'll have to make do with what existing equipment I have, but transfer it to the new cab
Heres my old cab...Inside measurements 55 1/2"T x 14 1/2"D x 28 1/2"W...I had it divided into 2 chambers...The top was the veg chamber and it was 37"T and housed 2-2bulb 20w T12's (4 bulb total), fan, DIY scrubber, 6"x8" non-filtered intake and was exhausted by a 120mm HD PC type fan...As can be seen in the 2nd pick it got crowded REAL KWIK with 4 or so clones inside...Bottom chamber was eventually made into a cloning area with 1 15w T8 strip light, a small fan and no intake or exhaust
All in all it worked pretty good, by was a major PITA and was ALWAYS cramped...I finally decided to upgrade so here she is
Its a basic RubberMaid wardrobe I picked up at the local Home Depot...Inside it measures 68 1/2"T x 28"W but more importantly 19 1/2"D...5 more inches of depth make a HUGE difference let me tell you...I then cut and screwed a 1/2" piece of plywood to the back and ran some caulk around all the edges to make it light and air tight...This was then divided to make an upper clone/mother area, and a lower veg area...A center divider was also installed to support the upper floor and to provide something for the locks to grab...This also helps tremendously for light and air sealing...I then wrapped the door edges with 1/8"H x 1/4"W weatherstripping to seal them...When I lock the doors they get pressed somewhat tight to the w.s. nicely...
A 6"x8" intake was cut in the lower back wall, and I made a little box so i could put a 12"x12" air filter over the hole...The filter simply drops in from the top...Exhaust is a 4" hole in the upper left corner of the clone area and goes thru the cab wall into the closet I use for flowering...One of those angled dryer vent thingies helps to keep unwanted light from entering the flower area in the closet during lights out...I have the same HD 120mm PC fan attached to a piece of 4" flex duct (more on this later)...This allows me to delete the scrubber I had in the old cab, freeing up valuable space in the clone area...So lets start there
Clone/mom area is 20"Tx28"Wx19 1/2"D...Just the same old 20w T12's plus the 15w T8 from the old cab were installed (will upgrade later on)...A power strip was mounted to the right side, up and out of the way...2 notches 2"x4" were cut out of the back corners of the shelf to allow air to flow from the veg area (intake located) and up into the clone area and out the 4" hole in the upper left corner...The shelf was lined with commercial grade rubber backed carpet tiles that were "liberated" from a jobsite...Cut to size and stapled down...All pretty basic really...No reflective material is needed up here so I left it as is...
I can easily fit 10-12 cups plus 3 moms in here once I get organized...Moms will have to be Banzai of course...BOG Blue Moon Rocks in the red cups...BOG Bogglegums from seed in the white dish on left
Here's the veg area...Measures 48"T x 28"W x 19 1/2"D...I have a 250w CMH open with a cheapo alum Batwing reflector that is height adjustable by chains...I veg all my clones to around 12"-14" before I flip...With the 48" I can veg them that big while still maintaining the 12" or so I need away from the bulb...A 6" cheapo fan was HUNG from a bungie cord with some foam padding on the base to isolate the vibrations from the side of the cab...Powerstrip mounted again to the upper right corner along with the airpump for my bubblers...I hung the pump rom the ceiling with bungies again to keep vibration to a minimum
Ballast for the CMH was mounted outside on the top of the cabinet to keep heat from it OUT of the cabinet (fucker does get hot)...A hole was drilled and the cords pass thru the top of the cab, thru the vents cut for the airflow, and then sealed up top...I then camo'ed the ballast box with an empty box (strategically cut to allow hot air out) and threw a few more up there to make it look good...I leave the top of the ballast box cracked a bit to allow the heat to escape
I then salvaged the Reflectex aluminum bubble wrap stuff from the old cabinet and reinstalled in the new...Its was all fucked up and ripped so it ghetto'ed it...This will get replaced with some nice new reflectex in the future, but this will work for now...The same rubber backed carpet tiles were installed in the bottom of the veg area...The middle pic shows BOG Bogglegums in the back and 2 Grapevine Sour Bubble knockoffs in front (one on right might not make it)...Right pic is my DANK ASS C99 cut...I saved her from certain death...Pic was right after being topped and she's safe and sound in her new box waiting to be cloned like hell
I still have a few little things to do like get all the cords organized and stuff liek that but I ran into a heat problem...Temps were getting almost 12 deg over ambient in both chambers...I keep the room at 70deg or so and with all lights on cab temps were getting close to 83deg or so...TOO HOT for my tastes...I figured airflow was not hte greatest so I went to work...
Removed the little duct cover thingy to free up what restriction it had to the closet...I then cut 2 more 2"x4" notches in the front of the shelf to allow more air to flow from lower to upper...This little mod dropped temps in the cab by 5-6 degs or so...A BIG improvement for such a small mod...temps are now in the 76-78deg range which I can live with until i can upgrade to a better fan
Tell yo what...That extra height and especially the extra depth sure is nice...Now I have room to move things around, hold more, and enjoy my gardening
Peace
