yellowing/small leaves

Whats wrong with my plants, they are in soil mixed with a tiny bit of bone meal and pearlite. (all purpose potting mix) I water with tap water whenever they get dry but not too dry. They are under a 70w hps.

Does look like its hungry. Whats your soil ph? what is the ph of your water?

NICE! I was thinking they were under fed too by looking at the pics. Then I read the posts and everyone else said the same thing.

I like reading this forum. Its great for learning what certain problems look like.

You need more than just "a tiny bit" of perlite added to your all purpose potting soil to provide decent drainage. You also need to monitor the pH and not overwater to avoid this kind of situation.... and feed them. But, overwatering alone can cause this starved appearance and continued overwatering can lead to every known deficiency under the sun from the root disease caused by overly wet soil conditions. but of course, like everyone said feeding is necessary too, but...

Do those coffee cans even have any drainage holes ?

How are you judging when to water ?

i am most definitively not over watering I only water when the soil gets really dry and yes the coffee cans do have drainage holes. Ill try with a small dose of mg in their water and see what that does for them.

make sure they completely dry out and are those cans metal, I wouldn't use a metal can they will rust and that would be no good. what type of light source are you using??

Something else to think about with that metal can...

I've seen issues with Iron tox from having steel in contact with plants before...might wanna transplant outta that coffee can and into something a little more inert.
