WW Stuck in ROOT PHASE?

I trasnplanted all of my WW plants from 1 gallon to 3 gallon. They were growing almost non existant since day one. Thay are only 3-4 inches tall with no internodal growth at all. They were totally root bound. Huge white tap roots all the way up the sides of the pot. No soil wanted to fall off when removing the 1 gallon pot.

3 days later they have shot up and out like a mad dog........

See these posts for the specifics.

Do you think that putting them under 420 Watts of CFL 64 WPSF to early made them grow all roots and no Veg?

Crazy I tell Ya!!!!!!!

have you given them any nutes?

At 20 days I fed them and the yellowing stopped. I fed them again every 10 day's. GH 3 part 800 PPM. Soil runoff of 7.8 or so, high for sure. Never burned or anything, just no VEG growth all roots....

Soil runoff ph of 7.8 will cause quite a few problems.

Having great root growth the 1st 3wks WAS ok, in fact it was a great thing! For them to fill up a 1gal pot that soon with roots means its a pretty healthy strain. That was ok for them to become SO solidly rootbound in the smaller pot that the soil stayed in the roots.

Heres your mistake. When transplanting a solidly rootbound plant into a larger pot, you MUST do one of these two things after removing the rootball from the old pot.

Gently massage/shake/squeeze the roots until the root ball loosens up enough that about 1/2 of the old soil/medium drops out. Then you can spread the roots out and transplant into the larger pot.

OR you can make several vertical {top to bottom} slices around the outside of the rootball with a pocket knife from the top of the soil to the bottom of the rootball. Then gently massage and spread out the ball to loosen it up some, and transplant.

What happens when a plant is badly/solidly rootbound is that the roots form the shape of the pot and begin to grow AROUND and INTO the rootball rather than growing outward/downward in search of new soil/medium. All we need to do is to break up and loosen up the solid mass of roots when transplanting and that will allow the roots to grow out and down into new soil.

When a plant is transplanted with a solid rootball, the rootball tends to remain "locked" into itself rather than growing new roots to send out into the new soil. Your plants likely will eventually grow new roots out into the new soil, but it could take awhile, and meantime, yep you guessed it :badday: veg growth suffers until they can get new roots going. Good luck

After reading your link to> yellow leaves on ww< i see you might not have the super healthy root growth i was thinking of. The stunted veg growth and deficiency may be more nute and ph related like what sproutco and mtf might have been thinking.
The roots stuff works, i just dont think its the cause or the cure in this case. Good luck.

When I transplanted, I washed and massaged about 75% of the old soil out of the root ball. The root ball filled up both hands. The next day the were perky and no wilt or stress noiticed. I will take some pics tonight. They are soooooooo happy now. Planted is FF Ocean.

With that shit SuperSoil brand @ 7.8 I knew they were getting hammered.....
