wrong lights?

while this isn't my first grow ever, its my first in over 5 years and my first with good information. so i pretty much consider this my first real grow.i recently built a rubber maid setup and after getting back from home depot, i logged on to the forums and did some reading. i'm pretty sure i bought the wrong CFLs. the box says:

40 watt equivalent
Daylight (5500k)
light output: 385 lumens
energy used: 9 watts

however i have 6 of them in the box, giving me 2310 lumens. i was wondering if that would be enough light for veg for 2-4 small plants. my box is made with 2 10 gal tubs if that gives you an idea on how big it is. i'm planning on planting 4 bagseeds and if i get lucky, i might end up with 2 fems. also, i'm looking into height restriction techniques, so if anyone has any links on that, that'd be mighty helpful too.

ps. i'm planning on growing in soil

EDIT: i'm not the richest guy ever, so money is a little bit of an issue ad these lights cost me about $30 for the 6 so i'd hate to feel like i wasted the money. but i also want the right lights, so if i necessary, i have no qualms about going out and buying the good stuff :p

You could easily veg plants for a while with those, but with such a low light intensity you will get a small haul.

Your best bet would be to try and get a HID lamp of some sort. Even a large cfl would be better.

are you just planning on filling the rubermaid tub with soil, I would use pots till you have sexed them, otherwise it would be a bitch to get teh males out of there

Your biggest problem will be air circulation

YOu best be reading through some threads to get your feet wet

Just use the search at the top right, you will find all your info there

Good luck with your grow

The daylight 55-65k is good, but the watts are too little. If you can return those,go to walmart they have 27watt=100watt output cfls,65k daylight, they are like 7.00 for two, each one has about 1200 lumens. The daylight are for veg, soft white 22-42k for flowering. As far as enough light find out your sq/ft by lenth times width of your room, then divide that by how many watts you have to give you watts/sq ft;it should be between 30-50 watt/sqft.Hope that helps good luck.

thanks for the input guys, greatly apreciated.

i should have been a little more specific, i'm doing a soil micro grow inside of 2 rubber maid tubs (based off of red greenery's design). this gives me approx 3 sq ft of space and i'm limited to about 3 ft in height. i had planned on changing most of the daylight bulbs out for soft white when i switch to 12/12. so from what you guys say it seems i can work with this small set back. now i just have to get some soil and read up about nutrients

6x23w will give you some nice buds, just remember to keep them VERY close to the plants, no more than 2 inches away if u can.

thanks smokey, i'll remember that. although i don't think it'll be too much of a problem as the box i'm growing in is a bit small. check the link in my sig for pics
