wrapping up first outdoor season

I will try and add more photos from earlier in this project.
But these are from this past weekend. She is flushing this week and coming down over the weekend.
6 train wreck
35 gallon smart pots/ roots soil. the pots are above ground
flora nova
top dripped 5 gallons/ 2 times a week.
I am amazed at how short and stubby these plants are. It is very windy where these girls are.
they were in 5's when i got em and put them out back in June

thoughts?
questions?
and advice please!

How big were they when you put them out in fives? How long did they stay in 5s for before going into the 35s? How long after going into the 35s did flowering commence?

There's a chance they might have been stunted going from 5 to 35 gallons if they had a small root mass. Or alternatively if they were put into the 35s late and didn't have time to fill them out before flowering began, this could be the issue. Its surprising how small they are.

probably around 2 foot above the pots. in the fives for 3 weeks probably. i am guessing they started flowering 5 or 6 weeks after planting.
This environment is very harsh. the base of these trees are at least 3 thumbs wide.
but yea that horizontal post is 4 feet off the ground.. so they are 4' 6 at best.
i pulled down their sisters from an indoor 3 weeks ago. those bitches hardly fit in my tent.... and these were the biggest 6 i had at the time.

i definitely could have not given enough transition time and wonder if bigger than 35's wouldve made a huge difference.... it will be fun to cut into the root mass this weekend and see whats up.

thanks for the feedback

So they were 2ft tall in 5s when put out, spent three weeks in the 5s, then went into the 35s for two weeks before flowering? My guess is they didn't have time to fill out the 35s before flowering and therefore didn't reach their full veg potential.

It's all a learning experience and great fun!

Peace

i actually think they were in 2's before the 35's after thinking about it.... this backs up your post even more.

but they were in the 2's inside at a friends for 3 weeks before moving outside when they were 2ft tall... these were put into the 35's .

5 weeks after being put in the 35 they flowered.

thanks

Probably got stunted going from 2s to 35s, the root mass in a 2 gallon will be very small in comparison and would benefit from another pot size or two in between.

For example, you could put them out in 2s start of June, into 10s by mid June, maybe 20s start of July, then into 35s by mid July/start of August.

This will give them time to develop a dense root ball. Often if they go straight into a big pot with a small root mass they can suffer lack of oxygen as a result of the medium taking too long to dry out and will become stunted.

needs way more water. 5gal isnt enough 2x a week. ur only wetting the top 4-5" of soil. to grow bigger plants, give her bigger pots and more water. i would jump up to a 100gal pot. and i would be watering that with about 20gals each watering. watering when they need it.
also flora nova isnt really the best nutrient i would pick for soil growing outdoors. your best bet would be to ammend the soil real well when you fill the bags. i have had great luck with Age Old nutrients, but you can use teas and such as well.
all in all, more soil, more water, more weeeeddd!
