I have lots of questions as this would be my first grow. If I bought a 250W HPS light, would it work to grow two plants? The closet is pretty big but they'd just be in one corner or the middle with the light above them. For starting the plant, I read on a seed distributer's website that you should soak the seeds in water overnight before you plant them, should I do this or should I use the paper towel method, and could someone go over this with me please? I would be painting the walls flat white and putting plastic down on the ground. Do HPS lights just plug into a normal electrical outlet, and how hard will it be to make the room light tight for the dark period when it starts flowering? The sex of the plants is really confusing me, it could be male, female, or both I have read, so if I happen to get a male seed, does this mean no bud for me? I also read people cut the males because their pollen stops the females from growing into buds, so is there always going to be females and how do I recognize a male and how will I cut it?

the multitude of questions u have my friend requires you take the initiative and buy/read a grow book. there r many to chose from.
just go to amazon.com select books and enter jorge cervantes into the search engine for books. you;ll then see his books and other growbooks too
once you read your grow book and educate yourself. then come back to thse forums and ask some stuff
i am doin this for your own GOOD!!

soak your seeds for no more than 8 hrs , wait till they sink then they're ready
hps light require a ballast, a 250 watt may have the ballast as part of the housing or remote. either way , yes you will have a wall plug.
you will might want to use a curtain along with the door for light tightness.
plant sexing is best illustrated in a book (pictures are worth athousand words)
yes males are not worth anything unless you area breeder. males if lreft undetected can seed your whole crop, no killer buds just seedy ones!!

Awesome! Thank you so much, I'd ask about fertilizer but I can read about that on google search or whatever. I have read about a few completely organic formulas of fertilizer using bat guano and stuff, but do you think using a chemical fertilizer will make the taste of the smoke significantly worse? That is all for now I will look for some more grow tips.

I just found a very cheap light on Ebay. Of course ebay is not always to be trusted, he only has one hegative feedback out of like 200 and it is about an item he bought from another seller that didn't work. Lol, but anyways what do you think about this light?

I would be growing two plants in an area probably 2 feet by 2 feet, I read that you need a minimum of 25Watts per square foot, so that would mean for that area I would need minimum 125Wats, so 250 should work great. I think I will be starting them with flourescents because of their light spectrum and they are less intense for starting them. Should I switch to HPS at the same time I am going to induce the flowering stage 12/12 hours light/dark periods, or before that time?

Wow that got way side tracked but any help will be appreciated, until then I'll continue reading, might watch some helpful vid's on pot.tv. and smoke some of this bud that I had to BUY, hopefully next time this wont be a problem! Thanks guys!

P.S. Off topic kinda, but I saw Marijuana Man on pot t.v. had people sending him bags of weed from plants they grew with his advice, what is the chances of this stuff getting caught in the mail systems?

you should also think about how to control the temp in the growroom, and the heat coming off your light

In reality 50W per sq. ft. is what you're shooting for.You have 4 sq. ft. so 200 watts would be adequete,a 250 is fine.If you're using tube flo's,keep them 1/2 inch above the plants until they are approx 5 inches tall,then I put them under the HID to veg the rest of the way.You shouldnt veg totally with flo's if you have HIDs,they are great for the first couple weeks but after that they are pretty ineffective.
