WAREHAM — A pit bull was fatally shot after police were confronted by the dog while executing a search warrant at 298 Onset Ave. on Wednesday, Chief Thomas Joyce said Thursday night.

According to police reports, officers and detectives from the Police Department and members of the Drug Enforcement Administration Cape Cod Task Force, entered the building just before 6 p.m. and encountered a pit bull in the doorway.

The dog was "growling and acting in an aggressive manner," the report said, so an officer used a Taser in an attempt to make it back off.

"The dog retreated approximately 6 inches and then charged at the entry team growling and showing his teeth," the report said.

According to Lieutenant Irving I. Wallace, two search warrants had been issued, one for the owner of the dog and the other for the residence. The dog's owner was detained outside of the house when police entered the residence and encountered the dog.

"Unfortunately, at this point the officers feared for their safety and the dog had to be put down," according to the report. Chief Joyce said the dog was shot once by an unidentified officer.

According to police, a search of the premises netted several items often used in packaging drugs, but no illegal drugs were discovered, and no arrests were made.

Lt. Wallace said the last incident of a dog shooting during a raid he remembers in Wareham took place in 1989 or 1990. That dog survived.

if i were a local id call the station and whip the chief about what kind of wimpy ass people there employing that need to kill animals during a clearly fraudulant raid.

And this is why we hate cops. Fucking assholes. That is what happens when you give some one with no concept of justice, a GED, a small penis, and no morals a gun and power.

well the dog obviously didn't deserve it. Just defending its house. If they had just let the guy go inside to hold his dog while they searched, the dog murder situation could have been avoided.

Can PETA get on this?

did the cop go on "mandatory office work" or whatever pending the investigation into the shooting death? that's what happens if they shoot a suspect.

and before anyone says "but its a dog not a human" i will throw this out there: what do you think they would charge you with for killing a k9 unit? it's just another double standard employed by our government.

What the fuck?

Um, last time I checked, that is not what it means to 'put down' an animal. Try again...

my thoughts exactly

From the article if I were the cop I would have put a bullet through that dogs head. Sounds like the place they raided was a drug dealers house and pitbulls are basically attack/guard dogs. Damn right I would have killed that dog. I would kill a pitbull for looking at me wrong the wrong way if I was a cop.

You are such a fucking moron, its not even funny.

To be honest, I dont see this going down any other way. The cops think they have a hardcore criminal, theres no way they are going to let him back in the house to secure the dog.

If the cops did any type of investigation on this guy, they should have known he had a dog and been prepared. Maybe animal control could have been on scene? But until they searched and secured the house, how could they let AC in?

Man that just sucks. I would be so pissed, I honestly probably would have snapped on them after being released.

I swear this country is going to shit faster than I can type this.

You need to calm the fuck down yamaha, you don't know me you fucking cock smoker.

I am saying is that if I am doing my job and their is a potential threat to my life and I have the authority to take that threat down damn right I would do it.

As for animal control they should not be expected to go into the house until it is secured. After re-reading the article they did have the perp apprehended so it sounds like they could have taken their time a little more, but who is to say the cops thought maybe someone was in the house flushing shit or loading guns.

When they go to bed tonight they better be thankful it wasn't my dog. I wouldn't forget it until I got even, and I would. The guy should have been attacking them the second they shot his dog.

And I'll add that anyone that thinks these cops were justified in killing that dog ought to get their head examined. They didn't have a no knock warrant and had the dogs owner outside. They served the warrant at 6 o'clock at night. They could have held a gun on him and let him secure the dog. Pricks. Plain and simple. Some rinky dink judge probably signed the search warrant using the dog as the probable cause there were drugs on the premises. Karmas a bitch.

SO You honestly believe the shit that the media is feeding you about pit-bulls huh? Only an idiot would make a statement about the pit-bull being an attack/guard dog because in-fact that is completely incorrect. How can you say that pit-bulls are ATTACK/GUARD dog, obviously you haven't done a shred of research on the subject for yourself, so here I am going to help you, read this then maybe you can come back here and have an intelligent conversation about the breed.

"Because the Pit Bull is generally such a people-friendly breed, they often make poor guards of property. Many specimens of the breed will allow strangers to enter the home or yard without a fuss, whether the owner is present or not. As a guardian of his human, however, the Pit Bull is quite willing and able to intercept an attack. The breed is credited with having exceptional judgment and will react only to real threats. Because of the Pit Bull's generally poor guarding instincts and natural inclination to protect his owner if need be, it is best to stay away from any sort of guard or protection dog training. A good dog can be ruined quite easily when this sort of training is undertaken improperly, making for a wary, untrusting animal that may become a danger to humans. Do not try to make the Pit Bull into something he is not. If a serious guard or attack dog is what you desire, it is best to look to one of the breeds that have been specifically created for that type of work." (http://www.realpitbull.com/temperament.html)

Ok now that I got that out of my system, I am appalled at what has happened here. The dog was clearly doing exactly what people should have expected a dog to do in this situation, A group of very "unwelcome visitors" rushes into the dog's territory, removes part of its pack forcefully, electrocutes the dog, and then they expect the dog to not try to defend itself? Fucking idiots.

You are dead on. Alot of pit bull breeders use other breeds of dogs like rotties, and some others to pull guard duty for the kennels. APBT are not guard dogs

Laidback, you are right, I dont know you but I can tell from your post, that you are an idiot. You sound just like a POS pig, taking advantage of his power.
