It's one of those things that I enjoy doing for myself/friends/family, but if I was told what to do/how to do it for someone else, I would grow to hate it.
I am currently sending out resumes to begin work as a programmer or systems analyst (I enjoy that too and it makes more bread), so we'll see how that goes.
I also am a socialist in the sense that I believe "the people" should be in control of a country's major resources like steel, oil, natural gas, food production, etc. And by "the people", I mean individuals working as a whole, not corporations.
In 2001, 1% of Americans held 33.4% of the wealth in America. The next 19% held 51% and the bottom 80% of Americans had to divvy up ~15.5% of what was left. I also think there should be a much better distribution of wealth amongst all classes of people.

In our society, we tend to see poor people as deserving of their situation in life. We tend to look up to the rich and feel that they got to be rich because they possess qualities that poor people don't. We idolize the rich in our hypercapitalistic society and we work ourselves to death either trying to just have enough food to survive or trying to amass as much material possession as possible.
So yeah, I'm all for socialism as an economic system. A lot of people say socialism looks great on paper but doesn't work in the real world. I say take a look at the statistics I threw down and you tell me that capitalism is working. (And it is, if you're Ronald Reagan and believe in trickle down economics)
