Wooden box around max fan for quietness?

I was on here a month or so ago and someone had a thread about keeping a max fan quieter. If someone could please point me in the right direction I will be forever grateful. If no one knows where that thread is maybe someone that knows how to silence a 10" max fan could give me some advice. Thanks and have a very stony day.

Insulated duct work. I'm pretty sure just a box around the fan won't do much. They're pretty quiet compared other 10" fans... but still without duct work it sounds like a jet engine.

I have 2 10" Max Fans running with decent lengths of the kine' duct and it's amazing how quiet they are...and how powerful they are. My only problem is they freeze up in cold weather because of the tight tolerance between the fan blades and the housing. Twice this winter my intake 10" froze up!! My solution was to mount the fan slightly tilted to let the condensation drain off before it freezes....and stops the fan dead in it's tracks. Not sure how long it was 'locked up' but both times they ran fine after they thawed'

A box around the fan does wonders. Please excuse crappy execution (never mix flu, high temperature and panic with credit cards and power tools)
