Shouldn't be too hard at all.....i has a hardness of 2 on the Mohs scale and can be scratched with one's fingernail.

seems like itd be fragile im not a very gentle person with my possesions so im gonna have to go with a hardwood pipe

i found this website for making your own briar ,meerschaum , and cherry pipes....i havent used it yet but plannin on ordering a block of cherry or briar, not sure what kind of stem yet... http://www.pimopipecraft.com/ <--thats the site

what wood would you choose to have a pipe made out of? i want to carve my own wood pipe because im feeling creative and i just like the idea, only problem is i dont know what type of wood to use, any help would be great

I would use oak,cuz it's a hard wood....although I would love one made out of Cedar,It's my favorite wood.
