Hello

when I read 8 weeks of flowering , do I count 8 weeks
starting from the first signs of female or do
i have to count from when they are put under 12/12?
I had several diffirent answers in growshops and other forum's
I know : look to your plant but i still would like to know this
I start from seed en gives them normal 2 weeks of 18/ 6
Anyone who can explain me the right way

Hi there,

count on first day of 12/12 Period. This very first day, starts the process of producing flowers. Chemical process that is. You will see the results in a week or two.

Like a woman who gets pregnant will have no visible signs for a month or two but this time counts as part of her pregnancy. Same thing here

does this also count wen you are "dwarfing"
direct under 12/12 from seed ?
thx for the fast reply

No. Not the same. Here the grower will have to wait for the plant to show when flowering started.

A plant can flower only after a certain age. No matter what you do before that time the plant has other plans.

So as soon as you see the first signs of buds forming, you are more or less 1 week in flowering.

NO. NOT AT ALL.. flowering count starts at first sign of flowering pistil or ball. from the light switch of 12/12 to the first sight of sex is still veg. in nature the 2 times blend over weeks. read some guides..

Dont be confused!
ganjaLeaving talked about the usual counting in indoor growing, and reefa cheefa had a more outdoor aproach to the question.

Counting weeks serves only as a mere vage indicator...
Seeing brownie pistil is a better indicator.
Acctually zooming over the trics color, thats the best indicator to see how mature a plant is, and it it is ready to harvest.

Cheers mate! :D

EDIT
bittybongbong,
i had the same problem with my first grow. Everyone does. How would you tell if something is ready when you've never seen it ready before?

Experience will help you determine the harvest time based on -like frankenstein suggests- trichs color.

Lets say you start counting on first day of 12/12. Now, if something goes wrong (overwatering, heat, light leaks, etc) your plant will stop blooming. Obviously, you can't count that time in the 8 weeks.

I count from first flowers. That's my personal opinion. I do this because I noticed the plants were longer flowering than was indicated by the breeder till they were ready to harvest.

I count from the day i switch to 12/12 when i am growing seedlings. You have to understand though that a plant will only show sex in 12/12 when it is mature enough to show sex. Most plants i have grown from seed will show sex around week six from germ so if i you add the two week seedling stage and a four week veg cycle then flower you should be able to count from the day you start 12/12. Some strains will flower sooner then others though it is all strain dependant. The six week before flowering thing is for getting bigger yields and plants. if you do 12/12 from seed the plant still needs to become mature enough to flower so it might still take six weeks before it will even think of flowering. Also i believe the flower time on seedpacks are just an average flower time for the different possible phenos.

ok , I guess i will have to look to this trichomes -stuff color
to be sure
Could anyone send or post me a close -up offa bud who has the right trichomes color
so I can see it myself
Am I right to asume that for more stoned over high they have to be longer under 12/12
thanks a lot

I don't know why it matters when you start counting. They're finished when they're finished, right?

Anyway...

Here's some nice pics for you.

right right. counting starts with first sight of flower and you time the end with the microscope and triches. there are pictres on the site some where.

This is the first day of flowering. Start your count from here. Then go to the Trichomes for when to harvest. I usually take them when the Trichomes are mostly cloudy.

If you're starting the 12/12 cycle at 2 weeks of age, you better not start counting the weeks at the switch. The probably wont show sex for 10 days to 2 weeks.

If they have vegged for 40 days or so they should show sex with 3 or 4 days. I always start the flowering time from the time they show sex after switching the light.

Its best to veg until thay start to produce pre-flowers before flowering them which can be from 4 to 8 weeks of veg, then you can count from the first day of 12/12,but if there not sexually mature they'll take around 7 to 14 day's to pre-flower so count from then but always use a mag glass to check maturity

ok everyone
I had some very usefull answers
I asked for x-mas een trichspotter ( 30 times bigger with special light behind)
I think this is the only way I can be sure if my litlle ladies are ready to harvest
to all , merry x-mas and LIGHT DEM

A clone that is already large may flower quicker (by a week or so) due to its maturity, depending on the strain. And if flowering a seedling that has vegged a bit and just shown its sex, sometimes you can add an extra week or so onto the recommended flowering schedule. A few ambers, mostly cloudy is what I like to go for as that is an even buzz for myself. But if you want some heavy late night stuff, you can always harvest an Indica half cloudy and half to mostly amber. Some people like em mostly clear with only some cloudy and no easily visible ambers for an extra clear and light buzz. So the schedule is more of an approximation, the loop will tell you exactly when you've got what you're looking for. Your harvest destination may be on time or a bit late, depending on personal preference. You can even harvest successively throughout the end of harvest time to see what is the perfect time by the resulting effects.
