I dont know if this has been discussed on IC before, but I had an idea for a back-up security device the other day:

After taking one of my patient's dogs to the vet for a GPS tracking implant, the thought occured to me: "why not implant one of these in a bud with an exacto knife and some super glue"?

That way, if someone rips your plants up, you can hop online and find out where the SOB is, then go get your shit back.

what about putting it on the base of the stem, then wrapping a rubber band around that so its tight, but not crazy tight, so when the plant grows, it wraps around the gps (like a tree growing thru a chain link fence). I bet you could get it completely engulfed by the stem if you had a monster outdoor tree that grew for months upon months.... indoors you'd be SOL.

I just think by the time you've got nugs big enough to hide a gps in, rippers would have already ripped.


cool idea though... I bet theres some good ways of implementing this stuff.

scary thought though how easy one of those could be hidden in ballasts and whatnot.

Yea but there is no guarantee that the thief will swipe the entire plant, most just take the nice tops and get out quick. If you pick a nice big bud they are pretty much guaranteed to take it.

I'd be willing to damage a small area of a cola to have this kind of security.

i had my dog microchipped. it doesnt send out any signals. the run a scanner over the dog to get a code. you would have to scan the weed. unless i am missing something.

Ah, I see, so I guess the dog chips wont work.

The one in the picture above is designed to be put in a car and tracked via satellite.

I was reading more about it and it looks like tracking devices that small might not be affordable(or even available) yet, but its only a matter of time before they will be.

So it's something for outdoor growers to look forward to as the technology becomes more available.

it's here already, they have gps tracking devices for kids clothing now. plus there is a GPS unit for a dogs collar that tracks your animal up to 2 miles away, I think it was a Garmin Rhino if I remember correctly. from the late 90's
just have to spend some $$$ for decent tech.

Umm it all depends on your perception of worthiness. I know that if someone took my 2 plants I'd leave them be, but if a person had $100k+ of bud stolen I'd see it fitting getting it back.

colorado growers are facing new challenges, large commercial grow ops where the locations are known. it's hard to hide from the rippers when you must comply with the state regulators that will soon be visiting grows.

There is a LOT of that kind of shit going on and most growers only admit to that happening when it becomes public.

Tracking normally is wiped away as paranoia....

i think i read in JJScorpio's outdoor thread he uses a game camera to keep an eye on his plants. i really like that idea as it should alert you as soon as some one come across your spot, meaning you can go in and quickly move everything or guard it or harvest it early.

but yeah the tracking device is also interesting, even if you can't get your buds back you will get a very clear idea who ripped you off. this info alone is worth a lot. you can the chose your next step according to what kind of people and amounts it's all about. at the very least you will know who not to trust.
