Wiring questions/tips

Is it possible to use a pc power cord in place of an extension cord for wiring up an outlet box? Would save me some money as I have tons of them laying around.

Also, when most people wire up their boxes do they just hotwire both outlets to one cord? Just use a jumper or something to supply the other outlet? Any tips on wiring one up would be great. Been looking around the diaries and DIY's but haven't seen anything specific to wiring up these boxes.

My plan is to use one extension cord for one box, and a separate cord for the other, so that I can run each box from different breakers in my apt.

Thanks for any advice or links if you have one.

Yeah, PC power cords and extension cords are the same. Can't answer the other question though, hopefully someone will know.

Well that's good news at least. I'll just give it a whirl some more. Making my cab out of one 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" mdf, well, plus the $5 luan backing. Just have the hardware store do all the cuts. If they do charge for extra cuts it won't be more than $3 or $4. Usable space is 22.5"w-46.5"h-18"d. No idea when I'll actually be able to get anything going, tho. I'd like to think I'm about half way there, but that's just fibbin'. Thanks for the info.

PC power cords are by definition, extension cords. You need to keep in mind the length of the run and amount of amps you are pulling. Safety first!

Right on. One box will have the timer with a 150w hps and maybe a couple cfl's, and whatever fan I go with for exhaust, either a Stanely blower mod or an inline duct fan. The other box will be for stuff on 24 hours, like some pc fans for circulation and maybe air pumps or what not if I decide to go dwc. Going to get one of the 15a extension cords for the box that will have to travel to the other room, should be no more than 10-15 feet tho, and will only run a couple pc fans as I said.

Running that low wattage shouldn't be a problem. It could just be my paranoid side, but your above average computer runs at like maybe 600 watts. Just my two cents
