Wiring Electrical Box

Alright, I'd like to wire an electrical box with (4) plugs on it inside of my box. I was wondering how can I make it so that I can have one cable running out of the box that plugs into the 120v outlet and gives the other 4 plugs on the inside power? I'm a total moron @ electrical shit and wasn't sure, all help is HGIHLY appreciated as this is the last part of my box! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Not a surge strip, like an electrical box... Like a wall outlet, how you have 2 plug spots, I want to have 4 inside, and one cable coming out that powers those 4... but I DONT want to use an extension cable and power strip... Get what I'm saying? Or would I be best to just buy a powerstrip and use that? I got a 600watt HPS, 4" Vortex, (4) 4ft t8s, and a oscilating fan that I need to power...

If you dont know what the fuck your doing :bat: then buy a power strip

doing your own wiring is dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. voltages of 120v and 240v will kill you under very low amperages. get a nice power strip that can handle 1875 watts and you will be fine. make sure that the gauge of the strip is larger enough to carry enough power (ie a skinny power cord won't do it for you)

Alright, how can I extend the cord tho, IE: make the cord to the wall from the strip longer, can I splice into it and extend it w/ some heavy gauge electrical wire and then just take some electrical tape over it? I mean to me that sounds sort of unsafe...

How long of a power cord do you need? It's probably going to be easier and safer for you to just buy a heavy duty extension cord and plug your power strip into that...or buy a power strip with a longer cord from your local home improvement store.

Look on the package it comes in if it's got 12 or 14 awg wire it's good enough for you. DO NOT GO ANY SMALLER THAN 14 AWG. IT WILL COST MORE FOR THE LARGER WIRE SIZE BUT YOU NEED IT.

14 gauge will be fine...<edit>12</edit> gauge is a waste unless you're running off a 20a circuit and planning to run more than just a 400w and a couple of accesories.

Agree with 70s Head !
If you re gonna split 220/240, or R & R power,
Please understand what you are doing.

If the electrical looks bad, it probably is.
Ya cant screw up here bro. If ya just have to, Google or search.
Just get it right, cool?

Be carefull,

RD

I got for 6.99 a 6 outlet power strip rated for 1875 watts and it says 14 gauge on it, and it's what I've been using for a dahy here to test it all out, I'll grab some pics soon...
