will this soil mix do me right?

Hi Lo,

My soil mix always includes about one-third perlite for improved drainage. Vermiculite has water-retaining properties, which I think counters the effects of the perlite--so you might consider dropping that from your soil recipe and increasing your perlite to a little more than one gallon. Also, I've noticed that some people tend to use about twice the amount of blood meal as they do bone meal.

There are tons of excellent soil recipes hereabouts, which you can find with the handy search function. Luck to ya!

My soil mix is (all mixed to 5gal bucket)

1part Texans Humas(lowes)
2 parts Shp. peat moss(lowes)
1/4 cup doloimite lime(Lowes)
1/2 cup bone meal(lowes)
1/2 cup blood(lowes)
perlite till texture(lowes)

I'am a firm believer that the high dollar stuff some online gardening stores sell, can be had at lowes for a 10th the price. I don't grow name brand plants. I'd rather keep ma' money for more badass seeds. :joint:

I water with a "tonic" of 1tbls beer, 1tbls floor ammoina, 1.5 teaspoon baby soap, 1.5 tsp karo clear corn syrup, cap full Maxicrop seaweed(they had a sell at lowes, $2 a bottle..sweet), 10 ml of Medina hasta Gro 6-12-6. Mixed to a gal of un-ph'd tap water once a week. I cut the ammoina out during flower. The rest of the mix is used all the way to finish flower.

My plants scream with growth... :jump:

Texassativa, that's a unique mix. I might have to try it.

You said you use 6-12-6. Is this in all waterings through veg and flower?

Yes. Given the short growing nature of the MJ plant(2-4months) I use just one fert for the entire grow. The ammonia gives the nitro. It is really fast on being processed and is short term. Seasonal farmers use ammonia, in another form(Anhydrous Ammonia/ammonia without water) for years. Corn is a big crop where amm. is used. Watch the fields. You can see the tanks used to spray the stuff. The Medina 6-12-6 is organic and has little build up of minerials, thus not causing nute lock up. Your only growing for a little while. It's ok to use short life, fast acting nutes. Who cares if the soil is fertile after you cut your plant down? You don't need it anymore.

When you read about people pee peeing on their plants...they are just adding ammonia in a another form.

Corn is very similar to MJ. The corn cob is a flower. We just eat the young seed. It grows till it flowers and dies. For ammoina adding a taste...Have you ever tasted corn that reeked of amm.?

The link below decribes Anhydrous Ammonia.

http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/cropsystems/DC2326.html

"Besides being a common source of nitrogen fertilizer, anhydrous ammonia has other purposes on the farm. It has been used with high moisture grains to control mold growth."

Here's a bagseed plant that had 6-12-6 used the entire grow cycle (she gave 3.5oz):

Cool. I think I understand all the ingredients.

Is the soap used as a wetting agent? What kind of soap do you use? I don't really know what "baby soap" is. Is that like additive-free soap or something.

Sorry to threadjack, Lo Pan. I'm looking for a new soil mix to use.

Yes it's a wetting agent. Use baby bath soap, the kind that don't burn your eyes. johnson and johnson. You can use dish soap, just stay away from the anti bactieril(sp?) stuff.

Beer adds enzymes. Use any brand. Alcohol or near beer

Karo corn syrup; Suger feeds the enzymes and other helpful stuff in soil.

Ammonia; I use straight dollar store clear amm. The stuff I use has a small amount of soap in it.(surfactants/fancy name for soap). I have not had a problem using this kind. Afterall it's bio degradable so you don't fuck up the sewer/septic tank pouring it down the drain.

The guy who came up with the tonic, sprayed it on his yard every three weeks. I have used the tonic at every other water, with no ill effects. You might need to adjust when to use it. Try it on one plant to figure out the schedule...

He mixed up a 1cup of beer and 1cup amm., 1/2 cup soap and 1/2 cup karo, sprayed using a 20 gallon ratio hose end sprayer. I just figured it to a gal of water

2 TBL of bone meal, 1 TBL of blood meal, and 1 TBL of kelp meal to every gallon of mix.
If you feel like u need some nitrogen later on use a wormcasting tea @ 1 tbl per gallon of water. If i were you i'd get some wormcastings to put in that mix... one of the best ingredients ur can add to any medium... put about 20 percent WC in. they'll help break down them nutes also. -Opt
