Will this draw unwanted attention?

they dont assume you're stealing from a sudden drop off, people move out of rentals all the time and the usage plummets.

as far as I know the way they detect electrical theft is to compare the 'input' of power compared to the 'output' in the line (these are highly technical terms I know), it should read that its all accounted for via the usage at each house, minus the loss in the distance of the power line itself.

a huge variance between what went into the power line vs what got paid for is what attracts their attention.

An old school trick, is to get a City Business License for a wrought iron fabrication business-- It doesn't cost much, but explains heavy electrical usage--:tiphat:

Not if you don't specify the residence as the sole place of business-- Sporadic use could be the norm--
Just because you are too small to be on the radar...doesn't mean you don't use power--
"I work 12 hours a day....that's it!!"-- lol

Don't worry, the power company workers are all on wages, they aren't going to do any more work than they have to, and you are just one of several million customers, do you think they are going to take any notice of you? Anyway it's probably all done by computer, no one probably actually even looks at your power bill, let alone goes to the trouble to check and see how it compares to your previous bill.
You are invisible to them.
You pay your bill and someone probably enters it into a computer, along with the other 5000 customers details that data operator has entered into the computer that week.
Their mind is probably on what they did last weekind or what they are going to do this weekend, they really are not interested in how much power you used this quarter as compared to last quarter.
Power companies are really not interested in what their customers do with their electricity.

Yeah from what I have heard it is all done by computers so aslong as you just pay your bill on time noone even looks at it...they could care less that your bill is less then previous months as long as you pay it on time. UNLESS of course you are in some nazi state like Florida where it is well known that the hydro companies work closely with law enforcement to catch growers.

In most of the newspaper reports around her of big grow houses getting busted they mention that they were charged with tampering with the electricity supply, ie jumping the meter.
That may be how they get caught.
I was talking to the guy at a grow shop and he said he knows an electrician who will jump the meter.
I said won't that tip off the power company and he said no, they have so many leaks in the power lines that they wouldn't notice.

There has to be enough of a drop for them to investigate. There are ways to test for drops in output, and if significant, they will find it. If you are stealing 1k or 2k, not condoned but not an issue as far as red flags go. No idea about anything above that.

No, I think he's ok, in fact I think he has probably got more to worry about regarding snitches than me.
