 but the packaging states otherwise

fanspeedster.jpg

And the website states this:
NOTE: For use with brush-type motors only (i.e. Vortex, Fantech, Elicent, etc.). Not for use with blowers (i.e. Dayton, Active Air, etc.).

If your fan has brush type motors you're golden :)

Ah, the old "works with everything except everything it doesn't work with," trick. Madison Ave. Gotta love it.

Well the first fan on the box is clearly a Dayton blower, but I think I'll just get an inline to be safe.

Will you run the fan 24/7?

Many, including myself, found that starting the fan at reduced speed produced a whirring noise. This could trouble if it's on a timer. By starting at full speed and then slowing down, the noise is avoided.

My fan was working so loud about 60db-Now about 20 -25..I attached my Squirrel Cage Fan a dimmer .But mine is very simple. It's working for 3 days.So far now It goes great. But who knows after a couple weeks fan can damaged. We'll see.

Those speedsters suck big time they slow your fan but make the fan motor hum. You want a varic http://webtronics.stores.yahoo.net/ensavat.html they dont make your fans hum....

Dude thank you so much. Such an obvious choice since Variacs alter the voltage without changing the sine wave, therefore creating no hum or danger of damaging the motor compared to a Triac controller like the speedster.

:D Seriously thanks :D

No problem that is about the cheapest I have found them. And let me tell you the speedsters are junk I have 2 of them and when I first tried them I was pissed and did not use them at all the variacs are a little more money but they do the job right.....

HAH, I was searching for this Router Speed Controller on yahoo and it just brought me right back to icmag lol. "They just keep pulling me back in" I'm definitely gonna need a stronger fan soon to successfully push through the carbon filter. Good looking out budweiser, sounds like you know your shit.
