Will it not germinate if the temperature drops to around 50 degrees?

Preparing for an outdoor grow next spring.

But say during germination at night the temperature dips down into the 50's, will it die or will it just slow germination down a bit? It'll most likely be in the 70's or 80's during the day though.

I could bring them into a shed or put a box over them at night if it would be a problem.

Also, will using a ziploc bag for the beginning as protection/greenhouse be fine?

to be safe, especially if the seeds cost you money, you would be better to germ them indoors under more stable temps - but you may get away with it.

seedlings will die if temps go below freezing though

50 is a bit low for seedlings and it wont do them any favors really. i would use a heated propagator or bring them into the house at night. and germ them on a windowsill or a heated propagator

NB use a heated propagator with a thermostat as otherwise its very easy for the seeds/plants to get too hot!

yeah, you really need to invest in some things, so your outcome is alot better

get a heatmat and dome, I have never found it critical to get a temp probe, but you should get one, as to dial in the temp is nice, just don't go above 90, I like 84-85

real danger is outside when you have the seedlings under a heated dome/propagator and the sun comes out - thats when you need a thermostat!
some of the really cheep propagator/heatmat things can get way too hot.
