Will Gnatrol Make My Bud Dangerous?

I've ordered some Gnatrol to help kill the fungus gnats that have infested my garden. I'm 2-3 weeks into flowering right now. This stuff isn't organic so I'm worried if I give it to the plants, it will make the bud not safe to smoke. I also hope it doesn't make the plants herm on me.

Anyone have experience with Gnatrol during flowering?

Thanks for your help.

Gnatrol is applied as a soil drench to kill fungus gnat larvae and as stated above it is a bacteria harmless to humans. It won't come anywhere near the buds when used properly. Gnatrol takes a week or two to really show any reduction in populations. It is effective within 24 hrs of a larva ingesting it in that the larva is no longer able to eat. The larva slowly starve and die.

In the meantime put up some yellow sticky cards near the soil surface to trap adults.

Gnatrol

Thanks for the info. With a name like "Gnatrol" I didn't think it would be organic.

I'm going to couple Gnatrol together with the yellow stickies to get rid of these gnats. I don't think they'll hurt my plants, but my house is infested now. Those little bastards keep landing in my food and drink. Gawd, I hate 'em.

Thanks again.

no, it won't make your bud dangerous...

good luck with your battle. :bashhead:

No.

Try "mosquito dunks" - readily available at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Add them to your res and leave them until they are gone. Reapply as they dissapear - for me they have been just as effective as Gnatrol, but much cheaper.

Wow, thanks for the tip on saving money with the mosquito dunks..... I have been buying Gnatrol and using it to control Fungus Gnat larvae in my ebb and flow system, I mix it into the res - it's cloudy and stinky but it is organic, doesn't affect the herbs and works quite effectively. As already suggested, also add the yellow sticky traps and/or fly tape to catch the adult flies, but this did the job for me very quickly. I have maintained it in my reservoirs ever since, and I recommend running boiling water down your drain traps because the gnats like to lay larvae there as well.

The only thing that will devestate the larvae in 24 hours is a chemical pesticide bath. Trust me on this one. Nothing like MILLIONS of larvae floating in a table full of pyrethrin water.

The bacteria does take a little time to work. Also, you should just keep using the dunks as long as you grow, cause I don't know how but those little bastards find other places to lay eggs and they will always come back if you don't keep up the good fight.

At least, thats what I've dealt with.

If the Bt doesn't work I fully recommend beneficial nematodes to combat soil borne and rez borne pests. A little more expensive but think 100% safe, organic guided missiles for multiple different types of pests.

Good luck.

I think I must have just lucked out.

Where exactly do you get these? I've been to the home improvement stores and didn't see any, even asked and they were all clueless (no surprise). Also would this same treatment work for white flies? I think that's what I have anyway. The spray has been keeping them off the leaves but they keep popping out of the soil in droves.

i have a pest strip hanging in my room I do not know if it helps or not but i figure it does not hurt.
I bought some of those skeeter dunks today. I have a mild problem with gnats. I set up 2 of those yellow cards last week and i have caught 4 gnats. But i have the larvae in my water and it bugs me. So I put a 1/4 of one in my hydrofarm. I change my nutes on monday so i am anxious to see if there is any change yet. Also i want to make sure it does not hurt her. So i only put it in one. If it is working and not hurting her i will put a 1/4 in my other one too. I have not seen any in my Reservoir for my clones so i am waiting to put them in there.

Also can nematodes live in a hydro system, or will i loose them every time i change my nutes?

This gives me at least a hint to the dangerousness of no pest strips.
And at the same time, they've never done shit in ANY of my grows.

In fact the mites and gnats seem to bask in them, gathering energy from the yellow glow. Then they gain super strength, speed, heat vision, etc...

well here is what them nasty buggers look like :cuss:
i dropped 1/4 of a skeeter dunk in one pot and left the other alone. I change my nutes on monday so i do not expect much this time. but i hope i makes a difference by the next change
